Nicole Kidman Crowned New DS Spokeswoman

Who says Oscar winning actresses can't be gamers? Nintendo has picked Nicole Kidman to lead a print and television ad campaign for "More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima: How Old Is Your Brain?" The game launches across Europe on the Nintendo DS on June 29, which just happens to be the iPhone release date in the US. According to Nintendo, Kidman was chosen by Nintendo because of her universal appeal to mainstream audiences of all ages and backgrounds, as well as her reputation for being intelligent, entertaining and genuine. As you can see from the video, Nicole's "brain" seems to be much older than her real age.

Kidman is quoted as saying: "I love the concept that Nintendo is reaching out to new audiences with their self improvement products like Brain Training. Most importantly, I’ve quickly found that training my brain is a great way to keep my mind feeling young." What does Nintendo have to say about the move?

Here's more:

Nintendo feel that working with the award winning actress as the personality of this campaign reflects a long-term pioneering philosophy from Nintendo. The aim of this philosophy is to broaden the gaming audience with software that isn’t just fun but also enriches your life, whether training your brain or practicing language skills. The software is relevant and accessible for everyone from the age of 9 to 99.

More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima: How Old Is Your Brain? is the latest in a series of titles from Nintendo DS called Touch! Generations. Touch! Generations is a unique range of software designed to be enjoyed by everybody, even if they’ve never played a game before. These titles, like that played by Nicole Kidman, are disrupting the video games world and changing the perceptions of millions worldwide who previously thought gaming was just for 16-24 year old males.

I would have guessed Nintendo would pick someone like Haden Panettiere or Mandy Moore for this campaign, but it's a fun move nonetheless.

Also....I love that Nintendo would put an actress like Nicole in their adds. It really adds a touch of class....I dought you'll be seeing her in a X-box add anytime soon, or any non action movie actor.

Nicole as usual looks great! I also agree that its rad that Nintendo is reaching out to all age groups with their gaming. The Wii has really made people....who normally would have never touched a gaming console ....want to play Wii bowling until their arm falls off. If Nintendo can get my Dad to play video games...they can do anything. That game she's playing in the add is also way fun.

i agree that they should've gotten someone else, but anyone else i can think of is maybe too young for a new approach to their ad campaign?! Maybe they should have Sean Connery or someone really old...or someone famous using it during filming or something like jessica alba said she does. I don't know. I can think of so many different people that i'd rather see in this. i like nicole kidman but yeah...this wouldn't make me want to play that game.

it actually makes sense if they are trying to appeal to the older thatn 20 crowd...at least I think so. If they wanted more teens then Hayden would be an awesome choice.

I remember reading somewhere that they wanted to market to middle aged women. Kidman was a good choice.

and Nicole's good enough for the role. Like Nintendo said, she has the "universal appeal.' - so anyone would like to buy anything she endorses. Remember Chanel 5? How many of those did I get for christmas? Five.

Brain Age is definitely fun to play. It's more fun when you play against others, but it's still entertaining. And researchers in Japan have proven that it can prevent Alzheimer.

she just dosent seem to fit the part. i tottally afree that someone younger should have done it and i think nintendo shouldnt try and find a new audience. they need to stick to the younger audience.

Brain Age is a great game, it's not boring at all. I bring the DS with me on all my business trips. It keeps me entertained on my 14 hour flights to Australia!
