Playstation 3 Switched With A Phonebook In Box

Kid Receives the Worst Surprise Christmas Morning

Just when you think you've hit the jackpot and Santa finally pulled through this year by getting you your Playstation 3, you rip open the box to find a boring phone book, without a gaming console in sight.

This exact situation happened to a kid in Thousand Oaks, California where his PS3 was switched with a heavy phone book.

According to Engadget, the PS3 wasn't purchased on eBay or second-hand, but rather at the local EB Games, which makes this story even more shocking. The parents are just as stunned as their son and are trying to track down their PS3 as we speak. Talk about the worst Christmas ever! Let's just hope this hasn't happened to anyone else!

I thought his parents played a trick on him too! This is why I check everything I buy. Even if the box has that round seal sticker, I don't care, I still open it and check the contents. I've bought plates that were sealed tightly in the box. When I opened it, I noticed that instead of 6 dinner plates, I only had 4, to which one was cracked so bad that it wouldn't have made it to the table.

that sucks. Reminds me of that story where the girl got a slice of meat in her new ipod/iphone box.

EB Games should give the parents their money back AND give the kid his PS3.

I usually like to see what I'm buying to make sure it's either there or in a good condition but I guess with something like that I wouldn't bother. I hope they give him a real one. Poor kid. People are so shady.

at first I thought the parents had playeda cruel trick on the poor kid but after reading I was shocked.... I never open the box to check for stuff... guess I should before I start handing them off... thats awful... poor kid... now he will never have another 'big gift' look - instead he will probably have flashbacks each year of how he opened his ps3 and got a stinkin' phone book

I've heard that's been happening with iPods too. People open them to find a box full of rocks. What kind of a grinch would do that! Lame!

That's awful. Now I know why my mom always opens the box (if she can) to check before buying.

wasn't there a situation in the past where eb sold guitar hero and there's no guitar hero in the box?

Some of our Apple reseller friends were having this problem with new MacBook Pros shipped to them from Apple. The problems all tied back to a UPS hub. Pretty sneaky.

actually this did happen to me this christmas, my sister bought me a game at EB for my DS but inside it was empty. She said the guy at the store took it from behind the counter and it was new, so she did not even bother to check. But when I opened it I discovered that the plastic protection had been sliced and there was no game inside. :(

At first I thought the parents played a trick on their son (I could see my parents doing that to us when we were younger!) then I understood that they did not know that was in there. I didn't know that sort of stuff happened--how sad!

Doesnt anyone check the box before they put it under the tree? make sure all the stuff is in there? Hell I check my order at take out places before I step my foot outside.

Wow. Slow news day? I can't believe they actually sent a guy out for that, lol. Interview, sure. But a guy out at the "scene" live?? lol. It's good for the family, though. They'll definitely believe them now. And even if they don't, they aren't going to refuse to replace it.
