The councilman behind the proposal says, "If it takes shaming people to save lives, I am willing to do it. I'm hoping it prevents others from getting behind the wheel and getting inebriated." For a town that had nearly 2,000 DUI arrests in 2009 and is known for its problems with drinking and driving, the proposal isn't a terrible idea. Opponents of the measure say that it's too public a shaming for the offense, however. Additionally, they say it won't be a deterrent to habitual drunk drivers.
What do you think? Would a program like this work, or is it a violation of a person's rights and needless public shaming?
