Anyone who has trained for a long-distance race can tell you that proper training sometimes involves being a slave to your training schedule. Long runs, short runs, cross training . . . it's hard to keep track of it all! Luckily, there's now an app for that — and it comes from a trusted running resource. Runner's World SmartCoach ($2) for iPhone offers customized training plans to help you properly train for your next race. Pulling from the years of information, research, and advice in the pages of Runner's World magazine, the app will generate training plans for races from 5Ks to full marathons. Get the full details after the break.
The app allows you to create training plans of up to 16 weeks, viewing your workouts one week or one day at a time. It also saves the plan to your phone, so you can access it even if you don't have 3G or WiFi access. You can also email and print your training plan and receive discounts and offers from Runner's World on running gear and other items of interest. There's also a free version of the app with most of the functionality of the paid version. And, since the app is brand-new, you can get it for just $1 for a limited time.
