Steve Jobs Apologizes For MobileMe's Rocky Start in an Internal Memo

Do You Use MobileMe?

Not everyone in tech can admit they made a mistake, but here we go: MobileMe, that other Apple product released recently, has been pretty plagued since it launched. Reports of crashing computers, lost email, and the service being constantly down have perturbed even the most loyal Macheads.

Steve Jobs has stepped up to the plate to acknowledge all this static, saying that MobileMe was "not up to Apple's standards," that it was perhaps launched too early, and that they should have released one feature at a time, rather than all at once.

As a MobileMe user, I was grandfathered in by .Mac, and aside from being a little frustrated with the transition, I love my 20GB of iDisk space, unbeatable web albums, and syncing across all devices — for me, it's back up to "Apple's standards," if you will.

In the meantime, tell me: How many of you use MobileMe?

Let's just say I am trying to use the Mobile Me service. I cannot get my calendar to sync on my PC to my Mac and Touch. The email works just fine. So if anyone has any advice how I can get this to work with Outlook I am all ears. I am using the 60 trial to make sure I can get all the information to sync properly. THanks Shannon

i was a .mac user, and i have a tingling feeling that my hard drive crashing two weeks ago had something to do with mobileme. that was fun.

I don't think it's worth it. For the same amount of money, I can run a server with more space and capabilities. If I want calendar, etc, I have Google.

The contact/calendar/photo sync part of MobileMe seems great. But as far as e-mails go, you can use IMAP setting instead of POP. This way it'll always be the same wherever you check it.

I am a long time .mac subscriber and my family account naturally transitioned into mobileme. All of my mac.com accounts kept working just fine through my Mail app but I hear there were many who only access their accounts via the web portal and they were just down and out for quite awhile. It was for sure a poor launch. I am loving that my calendar syncs wirelessly, I don't really have a reason to plug my iPhone into my computer any longer. That has been really nice. The web apps are amazingly beautiful and crazy with what you can do. Drag and drop emails in the webmail interface! The web galleries already had been upgraded and that by far is the technology I use most with MobileMe. I can take a picture on my iPhone, send it straight to my gallery with a caption instantly. When I had my baby 7 months ago in addition to our regular camera and video we were sending these updates to the website for people to follow while they waited for the baby. They saw Grayden's first picture online 1 minute after he was born- seriously, just with my phone. The other thing I love about those galleries is my friends and relatives can upload pictures they take on their camera's to the website and then they sync back to my iPhoto as well. It is a great product but sad that the launch didn't go well.

i didn't feel like giving them my CC info for a free trial because i didn't want to deal with canceling it before the free trial is up. i have no problem just physically connected my iPhone to my Mac.

I got the trial version and it slowed my iPod down a lot.
