Super Smash Bros Brawl Review on Geeksugar

Super Smash Bros Brawl Review: It's Go Time!

Even though I was a big fan of the other Super Smash Bros. games in the series, it was so long ago that I honestly forgot what I was getting myself into. If you can imagine me and the BF battling it out on a Friday night (causing quite a ruckus, I might add), then you must know me pretty well, cause where the heck else would I be? Partying it up? Nah. Eating my opponents with Kirby? Oh, yes.

The awesomeness that is Super Smash Bros. Brawl isn't just that it's a great game to play with your pals at home, or online with up to four others, but the fact that you can customize your own levels, play in different modes, band together to beat the big bosses, and best of all, play as your fave Mario, Final Fantasy or Metroid characters. Plus you can use a variety of controllers to fit your needs: Wiimote, wiimote/nunchuk combo, classic controller, or even your Gamecube controllers so you're comfy and can smash with ease.

There's tons more to say about Super Smash Bros. Brawl when you

Little did I know when I ripped open the box, but SSBB is a total party game too! Accommodating up to 32 players tourney style, it even gives you some help with a rotation schedule to figure out who goes next. And of course since we all love to show off our wins, if you completely annihilate another player in a battle, you have the option of keeping a replay and screenshots of your best move to send out to your pals to rub it in. What a better way to say "thanks for playing?" than "Final Smashing" them into next Sunday?
One of my favorite modes when solo has got to be the new adventure mode. Well, not really new if you remember Super Smash Bros Melee, but in this mode, all the characters join together in this side scrolling adventure to beat the big bosses. However, if you have separation anxiety from your friends, the good news is that you can still invite one over to play co-op with you, as long as you play nice — you're on the same team here.

Bottom line? If I were you, I'd plan on throwing down the $50 for this one. Not only for the massive customizable options you'll experience, but for some pretty intense party playing, and some solo fun as well. Just like Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros Brawl is a must have for your Wii collection that does not disappoint.

Not to be a super Geek, or nitpicky, but I wanted to point out that you can't play Final Fantasy characters on Brawl. Final Fantasy is not produced by Nintendo, and you'll notice that only Nintendo copyright characters are in Brawl (Some characters weren't originally produced by Nintendo, but were since bought by them, so, thus, they own the copyright. Final Fantasy is not one of those cases). So, change Final Fantasy to Legend of Zelda and you're good to go. =) In other news, I am SO glad this game is finally out. It feels like I've been waiting forever for it! :)

Great review! Definitely one of those games you'd have to buy if you own a Wii. Just one tiny thing.. I don't think there are any Final Fantasy characters in it at all...

If anybody wants to exchange Wii Friend Codes, msg me! We've only managed to get in random online games ONCE since we've gotten this game. I guess the servers are overloaded.

We got this the other day! SO FUN! My mom was playing with us (she's SO horrible at video games) and she played Kirby because she could see him easier and knew where she was at all times. We had to pause the game the first time she sucked someone up she were laughing so hard. She screamed I ATE YOU AND NOW I'M FAT WHAT DO I DO!??!?! it was awesome. She got better as the night went on. It's super fun!

Megan, Since It's not true to life violence (it's more like an arcade game), I personally think it's fine for an 8 year old. But def use your discretion. I think it's a lot of fun!

I preordered this for my boyfriend (and of course, the fact that I'll get to play doesn't hurt). He then said, "Aww, you're my little Samus Aran," to which I replied, "That's really weird and doesn't make any sense."

I can't wait to get this game. I haven't been able to play video games in awhile because I've been so busy. I'm still working on Super Mario Galaxy, which I love! This one looks/sounds great, though.

I'm still working on Galaxy so I'll probably wait a few weeks to pick this one up. On the GC version I was always Pikachu or Kirby, but I may need to branch out on this one. :)

My MIL got this for my son, but it has a T rating--he's 8, he can handle mild violence, but do you think this is too much for an 8 y.o.? Thanks-- Megan

Geeksugar you got yours on FRIDAY??? Lucky lucky you! Anyways my boyfriend had his on reserve at the local GameStop and had also registered for the tournament. Went there at around 9 and was surrounded by SSBB fans (I was in a dress, since we had come from a wedding!!)! Everyone in the store had fun watching people battling it out. The waiting til midnight in order to get the game was torture though!!
