Tips For Taking Great Food Photos

How to Take Great Food Photos

With the mother of all food holidays just around the corner, I thought this would be the perfect time to discuss food photography. Whether you are a total foodie wielding a blog about your nightly experiments or are just into taking pics, I found lots of helpful tips on Digital Photography School about how to take mouth-watering food photos.

Although you can check out the full list of hints and tricks on the blog, the tip that stood out the most was one that told me to experiment with different angles. Don't get stuck taking an overhead shot, just cause you're sitting above your plate. Sometimes, the best shots are found when you're at eye level with your fluffy, carb-filled stuffing, and others are captured when you're looking straight down at your uncut pumpkin pie. Don't be afraid to move around!

I found that natural light works best with food pics.

Yeah lighting is always tricky for me too. I've been experimenting with food photography a bit. It's fun mixing two of my passions - cooking and photography! My husband makes fun of me though when I whip out the DSLR after I just finished cooking a meal! ;)

I wish there were some tips for lighting. That's the part I seem to be having the most trouble with when I take pictures of food.

i think that this makes a lot of sense not just for food but for a lot of other things. i think that we all want to showcase our food but sometimes when you take pics of food that looks great on the table, in a picture it looks awful - so play around and see what you can come up with.
