If you missed last week's Tron Night, you can rest easy until the film opens on Dec. 17, knowing that it will be awesome. Take it from community member (and Sugar's own), zzleigh, who got to sit in on the 20 minute IMAX 3D preview last week. She says:
Overall, the 23-minute (or so) preview of the film featured several exhilarating (though mostly previously-released footage from trailers, no spoilers) scenes from the film. It began in 2D in the real world (though Kosinski assured that the film, even in its 2D format, is meant to be viewed with 3D glasses) and once Sam Flynn is transported to the Grid, it goes to 3D. In IMAX, the effects are immersive and breathtaking.
Find out what you can expect in the first 20 minutes of Tron: Legacy after the jump.
We were able to witness Sam’s initial ride on a Recognizer (which when it landed, made me audibly gasp as the camera was planted on the ground, making the thing just seem awesomely massive), Sam’s initiation into Games (including getting “suited up” and fitted with his Disc), an actual Disc battle (this was very cool, imagine a giant stadium with multiple minigame rooms rotating around above the field), just a smooch of some vehicle action (Olivia Wilde’s character Quorra, later revealed to be Kevin Flynn’s apprentice, rescues Sam from Games in a Dark Knight-esque all-terrain vehicle) and a scene where Sam reunites with his father Kevin (who seems like some sort of spaced-out Buddha deity donned in white). Oh, not to mention the brutally incredible glimpse at Daft Punk’s cameo decked out in full Tron-style white suits.
