Twitter released major updates to its iPhone and iPad apps today, adding improvements to some popular features. Updates include a cleaner New Tweet screen, faster access to tools like photo uploading and location tools, and automatic link shortening using Twitter's t.co shortener. App users can also quickly find friends on Twitter using their phone's contact list and tweet faster thanks to autocomplete for @replies and hashtags.
A final notable feature comes to the iPhone app, putting trending topics front and center. Trending topics display one at a time in a Quick Bar on top of your feed (#winning!). Tap or swipe to the right on top of the topic to view tweets containing the topic. To view all trending topics, swipe to the left on top of the Quick Bar; topics will display one by one.
The official Twitter app for iPhone and iPad is free from the App Store.
