What Is the Best Video Game of the Decade?

What Is the Best Video Game of the Decade?

It was pretty hard to narrow down the top games of the year, so imagine how painful it was to pick just a choice few games of the decade! It's almost impossible to cast one game aside for another, but ruthless decisions must be made. So out of these fine titles here, tell me what is the best video game of the decade?

And don't stop here — check the rest of my Best of 2009 polls, too!

You don't know what you're talking about Anon 16. Also I agree with greenfairy; FFX and Fallout 3 are gems. FFIX is missing too, and it happens to be my favorite. :( I vote Mass Effect too though. Excellent game.Another honorable mention is Diablo 2. Even with all the MMORPG craze going on I'm still in love with the OG. Can't wait for the 3rd installment!

Final Fantasy X-2. I love this game because the characters are all women and they come with kick but outfits that you can upgrade and the game is just fun.

Um, where's Final Fantasy 10? Fallout 3? There were a few real gems in the list (Res Evil 4, Mario Galaxy), and I voted for Mass Effect because its the closest I'll get to what I wanted. But the Sims? Seriously...its only because the majority of people who frequent this site are not hardcore gamers, and can't really appreciate what other games brought this last decade.

I would have to say Gears of War changed console online gaming for me. The Horde Modes are addicting. Plus it really does Co-op online well. (Halo and SOCOM did well for me too, but Gears is just more fun)

m surprised a lot of games didn't make this list! Not too many RPGs here and I'm shocked Call of Duty MW2 wasn't listed since it did make record breaking sales. I may have also added Little Big Planet as well.

The Sims definitely. I still can get completely addicted to it.

WoW...been out for 5 years now and is still gaining momentum, can't say that for too many other games. I've been playing it almost 4 years now and it still finds new ways to keep me entertained. As a second choice, I would say Mass Effect since the story is more detailed and engaging then most console games, the dialouge options were innovative, and the graphics pretty nice.

I begrudgingly picked WoW as it pretty much put MMOs on the map. Sure, there were others before it, but WoW made MMOs a household name with references in the media everywhere and after all this time, still has yet to be toppled by other games.

Technically the first one came out in '99, but DDR should still be represented! It's my fave by far.

Accidentally clicked bottom one. I meant to vote The Sims. Firstly, it was pretty innovative for the time. Most games didn't feature such a sandbox for play time as The Sims. Secondly, it was a well put together game while Maxis and Will Wright were still on the team (unlike now, where the games are essentially still in beta for the fist couple months after release). Thirdly, the game brought in women gamers by the bucketload, which could have a future impact on the gaming industry as we know it (currently approx. 11.5% of people in the gaming industry are female, and most of them work in secretary/PR jobs, very few are programmers and designers... interest in games will hopefully encourage more women to go into the game design field, which means more variety in games). Fourthly, it encouraged modding and custom content. From player stories to movies, to more and more furniture and clothes. Gave people with little knowledge of computers a reason to learn what a mesh is, or a texture, maybe even learn some of the rudimentary workings of a graphics processor and bump mapping. I could go on, I just wrote a 10-page research paper about why The Sims is amazing and a 2 page paper on how graphics processing works.
