Would You Use WiFi In Your Car?

Perhaps, the better question is, will you use WiFi in your car? The New York Times reported that Wi-Fi Is Hitting the Road in Cars From Avis, and while they suspect some bumps along the road, the implications of mobile WiFi access are tremendous.

According to the Times:

Autonet Mobile, a start-up wireless technology company based in San Francisco, is expected to announce this week that it has reached an agreement with Avis Rent A Car System to provide a rolling Wi-Fi hotspot to Avis customers by March. For $10.95 a day, Avis will issue motorists a notebook-size portable device that plugs into a car’s power supply and delivers a high-speed Internet connection.

I can't wait to try this out because my Blackberry gives me access to my e-mail, instant messenger and a web browser, but there are still some things I would much rather do on my computer, and I can't always be at my desk. Do you think you will use it?

Yes, yes, yesssss! War driving is fun and all, but a steady connection would be heaven. (As an eternal passenger, I cannot tell you how many times I've wished I could bring along the laptop and be online while we're driving around town.)

I live in New Orleans, so we evacuate for Hurricanes.....These are loooooong drives sometimes (turning an 1:30 drive into a 17 hour drive). I would use it in a heartbeat even for $11 dollars extra.

That's going to create problems. I already see at least one person a day TEXTING whilst driving down the freeway at 80 mph. I would freak out if everyone was surfing while driving. It sucks because it would be nice for passengers, but stupid drivers will ruin it.

If it was oh yeah I would use it. Plus it would help keep my son entertained on his laptop on the drives up to the cottage. ( a bored 14 year old is not a good thing)

I would use it in a heartbeat....if it was free. Rental car rates are skyrocketing and I would not want to pay another $11 on top of that.
