Are You Ready For Windows 7?

Microsoft publicly suggested it is planning to finish Windows 7 in time to run on PCs that ship for next year's holiday season, last week.

Apparently, Microsoft has been working overtime to not publicly commit on the time frame for shipping Windows 7 because it doesn't want to miss another deadline. Their official statement is that Windows will ship within three years of the January 2007 consumer release of Windows Vista.

Last time I checked 27 percent of geeksugar readers said they've given up on Vista, whereas 32 percent said they still hadn't tried it. Where do you stand now?

I honestly don't know why everyone hates on Vista, Ive had it on my HP pavillion dv6000 laptop for about 6 months now and I have had ZERO problems with it! I love how pretty and customizable it is, and I didnt really have a problem using it when I first got it. Im a little sad to hear they're giving up on vista. You just need a computer that can run it smoothly and you shouldn't have any problems.

I'd be more than happy to have a crack at Windows 7, though I still haven't upgraded from XP. My parents bought a new computer earlier this year and have had no problems with Vista, so I'd also be happy to give that a go. I guess I'm a Windows user through and through because it's all I've used for as far back as I can remember(started with Windows 3.1).

i never upgraded from XP and i am glad i skipped the problems vista seems to have. i would be fine to stick with what works if everything else wasn't constantly changing.

I had been using XP on a 5 year old Dell laptop. I knew I needed a new laptop soon but I tried to keep the Dell going, planning to wait until Windows 7 to buy another. But that didn't work out. the hinges on my Dell's screen had been breaking for a year now, to the point where if I ever closed the laptop it would take forever to get the screen to stand up again. Finally, last week while drunk, I tripped over the cord and the laptop fell, breaking off the screen entirely. I needed to do get something ASAP. So, I bought a Lenovo Ideapad with Vista Home Premium. Guess what? So far I dig Vista! I've had no problems whatsoever and (so far - may be too early to tell) this is the most stable, enjoyable, headache-free laptop and OS I've ever used. I even like it better than my mom's Macbook. Of course, my old Dell was so outdated that just simply having so much more RAM (4GB) and so forth is quite refreshing. But I've used my mom's 3 month-old Macbook quite a bit and I really do prefer Vista. Vista has gotten a bad rap, I guess because of its compatibility issues with old software and hardware. Those problems don't apply to me. I've started fresh across the board with this new laptop, so everything works great. People should not be afraid about getting a new computer right now that has Vista on it. I guess the worries come in if you're installing Vista and everything else isn't new or sufficently upgraded? Whatever the case, I've never been happier about a computer than I am with this one with Vista.

I really don't like Vista. I use in on my laptop just because its been in and out with repairs and I don't want them to reformat just because of the OS. I try to use Linux where I can, but our Windows machines are on XP. No intention of going to Windows 7 anytime in the near future.

I still use XP because Vista is such a mess. They should go back to that system and just revamp it to be more powerful. Instead they're coming out with Vista 2.0, they just slapped a new name onto it for PR reasons. I was one of the strongest Windows supporters for ages because I play computer games, and because all the companies I've worked for used Windows so I needed to keep my skills up. But if they're going to keep putting out terrible products then I can't stick by them anymore. Plus the new Mac OS is going to be called SNOW LEOPARD. How can you top that?

On the Windows side, yes ready for something new, but after it has been out for a little while, it is microsoft afterall. It's fun to be an early adopter, but not for a main work machine.

I've actually always liked Vista.... It was semi difficult to grasp at first, with being used to XP, but once I got it, I loved it. It's so pretty I think... I'm cool with sticking with this for awhile.
