Are You Unhappy With Facebook's New Privacy Settings?

After announcing they would be updating their privacy settings, Facebook has implemented the changes, and many users aren't happy with them. Although Facebook claims that users now have more control over who accesses personal information, it has also made several profile elements accessible to all Facebook users. Anyone can now access your profile photo, current city, and pages you're a fan of.

While I'm not worried about giving too much information away, I'm surprised that Facebook made these changes. After all, they got their start by limiting membership to college students.

I've always had a pretty limited profile available to people who are not my friends. So I was utilizing the privacy settings extensively before the change. I find the new ones too broad and difficult to understand. It might be because I knew the old one so well, but it seems so much easier to open up your information to everyone or an entire network then just limiting it to people you know with the new system.

Man, this is exactly why things like Facebook are crap. What ever happend to the common sense rule, "If you don't want people to see private things about you....DON'T PUT IT ON THE INTERNET." People seem 'surprised' by this, as if they have some kind of control over it in the first place. Ya don't. If its out there, and I cared enough, I can find it. Especially through these social networking things. Sigh.

I think the settings are fine. I've got mine set to I think as private as it can get. You can see my picture, my network, my gender, my friends, and what pages I am a fan of. I think that's enough privacy...

I'm not a big fan. I don't like that people can see a list of my friends. I don't care about the profile pic, but I find it odd to want to see the fans of pages.

Even though we can change them back I hate that Facebook keeps messing around with the privacy settings and user interface. :(

Just change them back. There is the option in settings to go back to the old settings.
