Apple's iOS 14.5 Update Adds 400+ New Emoji to Your Keyboard

Right as we were getting used to the 117 emoji Unicode added last year (especially the tamales and boba), the text system added over 400 new emoji to our keyboards — so we're going to need a minute to review 'em all before we hit up the group chat. Released in conjunction with Apple's iOS 14.5 update, the new emoji include a heart on fire, a wounded heart, a face with spiral eyes (perfect after a boozy night out), a new pair of headphones, and even a remodeled, vaccine-friendly syringe. For anyone looking to ghost out of a conversation, there's also a "face in the clouds" emoji and a "face exhaling" emoji to use when your friends send the same meme for the 2,485th time and you've had enough.

As part of its continued push for inclusivity, Unicode has also introduced new "woman with beard" emoji and "person with beard emoji." Half of the new icons are also variations of the "kiss" and "couple with heart" emoji, which now include multiple gender and skin tone combinations to more accurately represent real-life couples.
