Apple's new iPad Air hits shelves on Friday, so we're looking ahead to get our iDevice life in check before the fifth generation of the tablet takes over. Here, selections from the best of iPad accessory makers for cases and keyboards to keep that fragile check protected wherever you may travel.

Apple's new Smart Case [1] ($79) is a premium extension from its Smart Cover line. Of course you want to protect the iPad's screen, but you don't want to get scratches on the back either. The tablet fits snugly inside these new leather cases and still have the ease of access with a folding cover. Available in six colors, including (PRODUCT) red.

The Aria by Pad & Quill [2] ($120, originally $130) is a little piece of luxury for the iPad Air. Each case is made of American cowhide leather and is handcrafted of birch wood perfectly tailored to keep the tablet in place.

The Smart Cover [3] ($39) is here to stay. For the iPad Air, the snap-on cases are in complementary colors to the iPhone 5C line.

Belkin's Qode Slim Style Keyboard Case for iPad Air [4] ($80) is cover and Bluetooth keyboard in one. White keyboards are available in blue, purple, or pink cases, while the black chiclet keyboards are for cases with black or red exteriors.

Re-create the desktop experience (as much as possible!) with Belkin's Qode Ultimate Keyboard Case for iPad Air [5] ($130). Made of airplane-grade aluminum, the keyboard automatically turns off when not in use and can be folded into the case when not needed. The keyboard's rechargeable battery is promised to have 264 hours of active life.

The FormFit Cover [6] ($40) is what you know and love in an iPad case: a clasp closure and multiple viewing angles to display the screen.

When you're working on the go and can't get a table space, the LapStand Cover [7] ($60) is your nonwobbly best friend with a material that will conform to your knees and legs to provide stability.

The iPad Air may not have come in our fantasy champagne gold, but you can give it the gilded touch with DODOcase's Metallics for iPad Air line [8] ($85 each). Choose from Copper Chai, Golden Coriander, and Black Peppercorn for printed cases inspired by international travels.
