We already know that Apple will be releasing an updated version of its iPhone this Summer, as it has since the iPhone was first introduced. And there was one detail hidden within the latest AT&T text messaging and upgrade changes that made me sit up and take notice: the $50 and $100 upgrade discounts for current iPhone customers will end on July 23, 2011.
Since the iPhone has traditionally been launched in the latter weeks of June (and on a Thursday for the past two years), I'm guessing that AT&T will give current iPhone customers a full month to trade up before shutting down its upgrade programs for good. This puts the iPhone 5 release date at Thursday, June 23. I suppose only time will tell if I'm right, but I'm marking my calendar just in case.
