We've seen cheap iPhones before. But this cheap? No way. The iPhone 5C , which just came out last year, is dropping to just 97 cents. At Walmart, in stores only, the candy-colored smartphone will be sold for less than a dollar , down from its former price of $29. A Walmart spokesperson confirmed the news to CNET this morning, so if you want to get your hands on it — act quickly. The new $0.97 price for the iPhone 5C will apply to new devices with a two-year contract on AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, or US Cellular.
Why the price cut? Retailers are preparing for the onslaught of a new Apple phone, the iPhone 6 , which promises a bigger screen and thinner profile. No word on whether Apple will continue its "more affordable" iPhone 5C line. Stay tuned for more updates when the Apple announcement comes Sept. 9 .
