The iPhone 5C Is Now Less Than a Dollar

We've seen cheap iPhones before. But this cheap? No way. The iPhone 5C, which just came out last year, is dropping to just 97 cents. At Walmart, in stores only, the candy-colored smartphone will be sold for less than a dollar, down from its former price of $29. A Walmart spokesperson confirmed the news to CNET this morning, so if you want to get your hands on it — act quickly. The new $0.97 price for the iPhone 5C will apply to new devices with a two-year contract on AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, or US Cellular.

Why the price cut? Retailers are preparing for the onslaught of a new Apple phone, the iPhone 6, which promises a bigger screen and thinner profile. No word on whether Apple will continue its "more affordable" iPhone 5C line. Stay tuned for more updates when the Apple announcement comes Sept. 9.
