Kate Middleton Takes the Pilot Seat!

Apr 19 2014 - 9:55am

The duchess has reported to duty! On Saturday, Kate Middleton climbed into the pilot seat of a fighter plane at the Royal Australian Air Force Amberley Base in Queensland, Australia. After a comical debate, Prince William settled on the copilot's seat in the F/A-18 Super Hornet so Kate could feed her curiosity about the "dials and gadgets," said Stephen Chappell, commanding officer of Number One Squadron, who assisted the royals. William and Kate shared a good chuckle [1] as the adorable royal tour moment unfolded.

The duo kicked off their weekend by hopping on a flight from Sydney to Queensland. Kate boarded the flight in a white-and-blue floral-print L.K.Bennett dress. After meeting with air force crews and watching an inspection of the guard, the duo planted a tree at the base's Memorial Garden to honor the lives of those who died in service. Later in the day, Brisbane, Australia, residents had the chance to see William and Kate in person when the royals attended a reception in the city center. To cap off their action-packed day, the couple took their staff to a rugby match [2] at the Allianz Stadium in Sydney, where Kate kicked back as Will sipped on a pint of beer.

The duke and duchess are showing no signs of slowing down as their three-week tour continues. On Friday, Will and Kate explored the breathtaking Blue Mountains [3]. Meanwhile, Prince George got a break from the hectic schedule, staying at home with his nanny after charming the world with his adorable personality [4]. The trip hasn't all been so picture-perfect, though — check out the most awkward moments on the royal tour [5] so far!
