While working from home has presented different, unique challenges for everyone, for the POPSUGAR fashion team, it was our closets. Filled to the brim with seemingly useless office-appropriate dresses, jeans, and heels, we feared our warm-weather wardrobes would stay in storage until 2021 and we were resigned to our athleisure fate. That was until summer came, along with new arrivals from Old Navy, and suddenly we were inspired. Shopping around for fun, versatile pieces breathed new life into our work-from-home wardrobes — see what we mean below!
"This top ($18, originally $30) has just enough detail to be interesting, but requires little styling. I wear this open over a bikini top or pair it with a cotton slip dress, anklets, and slides on the weekend." — Dana Avidan Cohn, executive style director
"I don't live anywhere near a beach, but I've been wearing a surprising amount of swimsuits lately. I find them super comfortable for lounging around in and they're so easy to throw on. I'll pair a one-piece with a linen pair of shorts as if it's a bodysuit, and I'll wear a bikini as a bralette ($18, originally $25) underneath a short-sleeved button-down or lightweight fleece." — Kathleen Harper, associate Native style editor
"I'm a big fan of wearing printed headscarves ($10). They add instant personality to my outfits and make me feel better about forgetting to wash my hair for a few days." — Sarah Wasilak, fashion editor
"These linen pants ($35, originally $40) are so lightweight and airy and make the perfect swim cover-up/lounge pant for summer." — Dana
"We are spending a lot of time at our lake house this summer, escaping the city crowds and the heat. These overalls ($45, originally $55) come in handy when I'm looking for something easy to throw on. I slide them right on over a bathing suit when I take my Zoom calls outside or before I run out to the local farmers' market to pick up some fresh cherries." — Amanda Murray, associate style director
"I can't get enough tie-dye. I throw on this playful sweatshirt ($25, originally $35) at night over a cotton dress or tie it around my waist with bike shorts and a tank for a weekend hike." — Dana
"I love a tee ($16, originally $17) I can wear a million different ways without getting bored — while still being comfortable. I'm pairing this one with cutoffs, with leggings, under overalls, and over swimsuits while layered with beaded necklaces for a cool, summer-camp vibe." — Hannah Weil McKinley, fashion and shop content director
"I love the longer hemline and relaxed fit of these denim shorts ($25, originally $30). I wear them with a neutral ribbed tank or tee tucked in and layer with personal jewelry." — Dana
"During this time, I've been getting a lot of use out of flowy, high-waisted skirts ($30). While working from home, I'll style them with a cropped tee or a longline bralette, and I end up feeling dressed-up but also effortless and laid-back. It's been an outfit formula I can't get enough of!" — Kathleen
"Any sort of beachy, floral print is making me feel like I'm carefree on the beach somewhere. I've been collecting printed hoodies ($24, originally $40) and button-downs for when I'm in the apartment with the AC on." — Sarah
"Dresses have been a go-to for me this season. I love slipping into one when I want to feel more polished for a video meeting or client call. The best part is, my sundresses ($40) are oftentimes even more comfortable than my leggings." — Kathleen
"I love how simple, timeless, and breezy this linen shirt dress ($35) is. It's honestly comfy enough to nap in and professional enough to wear when video chatting with clients." — Amanda
"Even though I don't have much of a need to slip on jeans right now, it's been nice to work my more relaxed pair ($35) into the rotation. They give my outfit just a touch more structure." — Sarah
"Right now, I'm all about easy slides ($22, originally $25) that I can slip on for convenience with anything from sport shorts to the free-flowing house dresses that I've been wearing to cheer myself up." — Sarah
"Tie-dye is the summer print that makes everything feel just a little cooler. I love that the added tie-dye print on these leggings ($18, originally $23) adds just enough interest, so I feel like I have a whole outfit when I pull these on with my favorite white tee and slides." — Hannah
"I'm all for linen everything in the summer, and if it happens to be a one-and-done dress ($32, originally $35), even better. Even when I'm working from home, a linen dress is surprisingly ideal — it's stylish and presentable for meetings and comfortable and breathable for me." — Stephanie Nguyen, Native style editor
"Nothing easier — or cuter — than one-piece dressing in the form of a great-fitting printed jumpsuit ($40). This one isn't just incredibly comfy (it feels like wearing pajamas around the house!), but it's also super flattering thanks to the smocked top." — Hannah
"Sweatshorts aren't particularly groundbreaking for a WFH situation, but they can be when you pair them with a blazer like I do. I love the look of something casual on bottom mixed with something more formal on top. Throwing on my shorts ($15, originally $20) with an oversize menswear-inspired blazer is my top choice for when I want to feel comfy but look Insta-OOTD-worthy. I've even worn my shorts with a button-down shirt half-tucked in." — Stephanie
