American Apparel Dress Code Quiz

Grooming Rules: American Apparel or Marine Corps?

Recently, Gawker unearthed American Apparel's exceedingly tough dress code, which discourages employees from (among other things) wearing foundation or lip gloss. Sounds like a similarly particular dress code — that of the United States Marine Corps. Can you tell which of the following are rules from Dov Charney's retail empire and which guidelines belong to the USMC?

The funny thing is, turtleshell, American Apparel was founded by a Canadian. Maybe it should be North American Apparel?

I'm Canadian, but I see American Apparel ads online on a very frequent basis. I never understand who the target market is. Sometimes they are topless, sometimes they don't have pants... but they never look very interesting. I think I once went on their website to figure out what on earth was up with them and still was confused. Their clothing looks very plain/boring.

6/6.. I have friends in the marines. I've never been in an American Apparel so I don't know what kind of clothes they sell but I'd guess boring. I definitely wouldn't want to work anywhere that didn't even let me wear my eyeliner lol.

5/6 - and I didn't even read the rules. I just went by the tone of the statement. I work for the government, so if it sounded bureaucratic, I guessed USMC. I did biff on the hair color rule, though. Who knew??

I've seen the way AA workers dress for work, and I've seen them without pants. So makeup is not okay, and pants are optional.

What the heck kind of look is AA going for anyway?? They are just ridiculous.

I agree with weffie and disagree with glittersniffer retail is retail. if you can get a job at AA you can get a job at the Gap or Pacsun across the mall...i can't imagine being an educated and self respecting young person and working for that goof Dov Charney and i'm sure they all pay around the same

Ok I only got 100% cos I read AA's rules yesterday, but seriously... I can't imagine anyone needing a retail job that badly! Any other store in the mall will let you colour your hair, have bangs, and wear makeup (unless I've just never seen the secret Forever 21 rules, but I'm quite sure the girls that work there don't have natural long hair and "absolutely no liquid foundation") so I'd rather work in any of those!

They need a job and like the clothes, I guess. I don't know, I wouldn't do it, but I don't judge those that do, if they're ok with the policies. Oh, and aced it, woot!
