American Apparel Lawsuit: Nail Polishes Were Exploding

American Apparel Sues Over Exploding Nail Polish

Explosive news came from American Apparel today. No, seriously: some of the made-in-the-USA brand's nail polishes were actually exploding on the shelves. American Apparel is suing Long Island-based Forsythe Cosmetic Group, who manufactured the nail polish, claiming that defective bottles exploded on store shelves before being pulled. The $5 million lawsuit also accuses Forsythe of scamming "tens of thousands of dollars" upon discovering that American Apparel had chosen a new supplier.

"We wish no ill will toward this fellow American manufacturer, but need to seek a fair and accountable solution to this incident," American Apparel spokesman Ryan Holiday told the New York Post. Forsythe, sounding oddly like Dave Eggers, called the allegations "a suspense-novel-worthy chain of melodramatic alleged events." Considering American Apparel's serious financial woes, we're guessing the company's lawyers are hungry for a court win.

AA is owned by a sexually abusive pervert so yeah, no bueno. Glad they're going bankrupt.

Nope. Again, the bottles in question were ONLY available at launch, and were pulled almost immediately. So if you own AA polish, you're fine. It's made by a different manufacturer and you have nothing to worry about.

Yeah, they switched suppliers. If you buy polish now (or have since, basically, launch) you don't have to worry about exploding bottles.

It's kind of funny how he gets all patriotic "We wish no ill will toward this fellow American manufacturer." I get that they are made in the USA, but when I think American Apparel I think ill-fitting, overpriced, cheaply made clothes/ passed out lilo. Doesn't exactly evoke images of a bald eagle holding an American Flag.

Yeah, the polishes that are in stores now are made by a different manufacturer. I like their colors a lot, but in general I have mixed feelings about AA. I like their "made in the USA" stance, but the way they treat women in their ads bothers me. So I wind up not shopping there.

How strange. AA has really good nail lacquers so I'm glad they fixed this issue.
