Backstage Beauty: Y&Kei
Yesterday I had a lot of fun roaming the Y&Kei presentation. Unlike in a runway show, the models don't walk around. Instead, they pose and stand and look model-y. So far, this has been one of my favorite showings because the hair and makeup easily translate to real life. It was just plain pretty, which is a look everyone can get behind.
The modern-hippie makeup was done by Polly Osmond for MAC. I spoke with her backstage, and she explained that this natural look begins with really clean skin. Cheeks are glossy, and she used MAC Café Matte lipstick (which should be out next month). She left lashes and eyebrows alone, which will be good news for you low-maintenance ladies!
I asked Osmond what she swears by, and along with sheer foundation, she recommends Homeoplasmine as a lip balm. It's often used by plastic surgery patients and isn't available in the United States, but it apparently does wonders for irritated lips and skin.
