Beauty Mark It! Overnight Hand Treatments

We've already looked at some top-notch hand creams, but what do you use when you want to take things to the next level? My mom used to slather on Bag Balm ointment, and then she'd slip on a pair of thin cotton gloves before heading to bed. In the morning, her hands were moist and smooth.

I thought it would be fun if everyone shared her favorite overnight hand treatments. This might involve great creams, luscious lotions, or a special kind of glove. You can share yours by tagging your choices with the phrase "overnight hand." I'll feature the readers' picks on BellaSugar next Tuesday, September 26.

I like to use heavy duty foot cream on my hands. "Toe the Line" by BBW is great because it has AHA's.

I tried to use it when i heard that Shania Twain uses it on her face (say what you will about country music, but Shania's face is emaculate!). It's tooo greasy for me to wear to bed, but if you can overlook your sheets sticking to you, then you'll be fine.

That's funny that you just highlighted this. I didn't know it was popular. My grandfather grew up on a dairy farm in upstate NY, and always had it around. He just died, and last time I visited my grandmother there was a brand new, unopened container of it in the trash. I swiped it, and started putting it on my feet before bed. It makes a noticeable difference. There's something kinda gnarly about the name.

BTW, BellaSugar- You should link to the products you feature, it would be helpful for those interested... just a suggestion!

megln1022- You can find it at the drugstore, Wal-mart, Fred Meyer, lots of places. Normally it's in the beauty section, but sometimes it's in the animal section (it's intended use is for cows udders when they are chapped... I think that's how people discovered it's properties for their hands by massaging on cows!) Oh, and I think it comes from Vermont & is sold by the Vermont country store.

bag balm is the jam! My grandfather was a master machinist in the Navy for 40 years & he used this so his hands wouldn't be completely calloused

I Love Bag Balm. It's like the biggest beauty secret out there. I purchased little empty round jars from walgreens and put some in there, so i always have it with. The best part is that its inexpensive one of these will last a long time.

I know this may sound gross...but I pour a small amount of olive oil in my hand and pour a bit of salt on top of that. Do this over your sink (very messy). Rub both hands together and massage for a minute or so. Rinse with water. And voila! Smooth, soft hands. Warning: the gritty salt makes you a bit squeemy (you'll see what I mean) but the result is amazing!

actually i had a roommate in college who did the vaseline thing- she'd put it on her feet before bed and then put on a pair of socks. i never asked her if it worked though- but she must have seen some results cause she did it all the time!

Daisies, I use lip balm for cuticles as well as for paper cuts. I've never heard of Bag Balm, but it sounds nice. I do the same overnight cotton glove trick with Vaseline petroleum jelly. It also works great for your feet, overnight in cotton socks. It's super cheap & works just as well as any other hand or foot cream I've tried.

I've tried Bag Balm but I'm not crazy about the scent. I've used a light pat of zinc oxide cream blended with any light hand cream to increase the "spreadability". Just a little goes a long way and it heals spectacularly. Not just hands but feet, legs, anywhere. I also get a lot of free lip balm sticks at conferences and expos. I had one that had a fragrance that I didn't like. One evening I tried it on my cuticles and my heels. Fixed them up overnight! Now, I keep a spare lip balm stick in my desk for quick cuticle moisturizing.

I love Bag Balm also! I use it for sunburns and dry skin, and chapped lips. It's a miracle product!

This is what I've always used! Bag Balm has been a long standing tradition in my family for all kinds of beauty uses. In fact, my old ballet teacher from ABT uses it as night cream all over her face and she has beautiful skin.
