Beauty Mark It! Recession Obsessions

After last week's challenge where I asked you to "get your splurge on," I thought it would be fun to do the exact opposite and honor these times we call recession. So for this week's challenge, it's all pinching pennies; I'm talking products under $10.

I'll start you off with the cult favorite, Smith's Rosebud Salve. It's the perfect choice as it retails for $6 and can be used for multiple purposes: chapped lips, minor burns, dry skin, it can even treat diaper rash. That's how I'm going to spend my hard-earned cash, how about you?

Share your choices by bookmarking items from around the web and tagging them with the phrase Recession Obsessions. I'll feature your favorites here next Tuesday.

To learn about Beauty Mark It challenges and how to add your picks, check out this how-to. To see some of my favorite online beauty stores,

I love this product! It's not available in my country so I bought one online. I've been using it for a couple of weeks and my lips aren't as chapped and dry as it used to be.

This made me think of "udder balm" or "bag balm." Originally, it was used by dairy farmers to soothe the udders of dairy cows. I turd you not, this is some of the cheapest, best stuff in the world for very, very, dry skin and cutical care. The REAL stuff can be found in frill-free tins at feed and seed type stores. Most drug stores carry it as well, in cute little cow-spotted tubes, but it is an overly-perfumed and far less effective version of what a gal really deserves. P.S. No, I didn't grow up on a dairy farm! ;)

For which I use Rosebud Salve I bought at the local Rexall store. And while I love Bigelow, I actually thought it smelled worse and was goopier.

I use this salve for many things. I will smooth a bit of it over my brows to help them keep their shape. My brows are kinda wily, which I like. Also my right brow grows to a point, have y'all seen that?, my mother said it was the devil in me, but I like it, it's a facial quirk, and I like to keep it shaped just right.

I love this stuff - but the container gets stuck in the cold weather. Thankfully it is summer!

I love this stuff! I've been using it for a few years. Be sure not to leave it in your car in the heat because it changes the shape and makes it really messy.

I love Smith's Rosebud Salve! I use it mostly on my lips and often put the remaining salve on my cuticles. I also use it for my hands when they get really dry. It works great!

Smith's has a nice scent but yeah it is kinda greasy. Maybe I will try the Bigelow version.

I bought the Smiths and the Bigelow's to compare, just last week. So far I haven't noticed a major difference.

I'm not crazy about Smith's Rosebud Salve. It's too greasy for me and my lips are allergic to it. :(

Even cheaper (by 50 cents) is C.O. Bigelow's version of Rose works just as well, but smells less like roses...
