Betsey Johnson Gives Us a Pink Spin on '70s Beauty
Love was in the air backstage at Betsey Johnson's Fall 2014 show, where the beauty look was superflirty and feminine, with a bit of a '70s throwback. Sarah Lucero, lead makeup artist for Stila, created a makeup palette that was heavy on the pinks. Eyes were done by layering Stila Smudge Stick Eyeliner ($20) in Stingray, Deep Fuchsia, and Deep Burgundy. Lips were high-gloss and bright. To get the look, Lucero first applied Stila Color Balm Lipstick in Betsey ($22) before adding a healthy swipe of Stila Silk Shimmer Gloss in Kitten ($22).
Lead hairstylist Michael Dueñas for Schwarzkopf Professional created a long, luxurious hairstyle that was full of volume and bouncing waves, looking like a heightened version of something you'd see in American Hustle. "Think Brigitte Bardot meets modern-day rock and roll," he said. He used a mix of products to create grip, including Osis+ Session Label Salt Spray and Osis+ Glamour Queen. Dueñas then barrel-curled the hair.
Lead nail artist Danielle Candido for Morgan Taylor Nails created a neon manicure with gold foil. West Coast Cool by Morgan Taylor ($6) was painted on top, while the underneath of the nails were painted with Bright Side ($6). If the '70s are actually making a comeback, we're welcoming them with open arms.
