A Botox Misinjection Gave Dana Delany a Droopy Eye

Dana Delany Says Botox Gave Her a Droopy Eye

In this month's Prevention magazine, actress Dana Delany made an excellent point about why it's important to get a good doctor or esthetician for any cosmetic procedure. Seven years ago, Dana's dermatologist injected Botox into the wrong spot on her forehead and injured a nerve above her right eye.

Now, she says, "my eye has started to droop a little bit . . . I notice it more than anybody else, but I was symmetrical before and now I am not." The issue with Dana wasn't the botulinum, it was the man injecting it, and she points out that "something nobody ever talks about is doctor error." Besides asking for proof of board certification (and researching the doctor's track record), what other questions do you think are important to ask before getting a cosmetic service?

One droopy eyelid can be from natural causes. It's genetic in my family - my grandmother, an aunt and I all have it. Mine started very young (early 20s) but my aunt's started later. My grandmother's surgery to fix it was covered by insurance because it starts to impair vision, and my opthomologist says that it's a good idea to have surgery before it gets to that point because it causes a lot of strain on the eye. Dana's could be caused by botox, or doctor error, or it could be something else. I wonder if there is a way to know for sure?
