Celebrities Without Makeup

Trend Alert: Fuss-Free on the Red Carpet

It's Summer and apparently celebrities, like the rest of us, want to take it easy — even at a big red carpet event. In the past few days alone, Molly Sims, Chuck's Yvonne Strahovski, model Bar Rafaeli, and actress Charlyne Yi have all gone with unstyled hair and barely-there makeup that looks a lot more normal-girl than Hollywood starlet. They're totally gorgeous, of course, but they're so low on drama that some of you think it's inappropriate for a premiere. I'd say this is smart thinking on the part of women who know there's nothing cool about melting into a puddle of lipstick and foundation, but would you like to see more natural-looking stars all year 'round? And do you think we'll see even more lovely ladies try this look, or is it for the young, beautiful, and perfectly complected only?

Light makeup is OK. But you should dress for a red carpet. They don't need ball gowns but I don't think tissue t-shirts are appropriate. And Orange self tanner is a NO, no matter where you are!

i think this is fine if you're going to the grocery store or even out to dinner, but for the red carpet you should at least look like you put in a little effort. it doesn't have to be an updo, eyeliner and red lipstick, but at least brush your hair and put some lip gloss on!

I have mixed feelings about this. The only look I like is Molly Sims', as she looks nicely put together -- light make-up, jewelry, a simple up-do with her hair, etc. She looks natural and pretty. The rest of the people look like they didn't care. Did Yvonne wash her hair?? It looks oil and stringy. The other two look like they just got up from bed. These actresses are on the red carpet. They are working. They are on-duty. They are meeting THE PUBLIC. Imagine if we appeared like that for a work meeting with clients, like we just got out bed. Trust me, it would not go over well. To clarify, I personally wear no make-up. That's because I have a flawless complexion, and I happen to look best with no make-up. It's one thing to be natural-looking, but its entirely something else to be poorly groomed (or seemingly unbathed), especially for a professional event. There's a difference. JMHO.

I love it too! I'm not much of a make-up wearer either and it's just refreshing to see this, and it sets them apart from all those caked-on faced celebs. :)

Yes indeed - so glad this is finally coming around. Au naturale is a good thing sometimes. Embrace natural beauty.

i like the less make-up look. I really like Bar but she looks like she has an orange mask on.

I love this look! Having never been a fan of makeup myself, this new natural look trend is so refreshing to see. Finally clean , natural faces on celebrities. No I don't think it's just for the young , adn yes I would love to see it year round. Maybe 6 year old little girlss will get the ,message that they too are beatiful without all of the cosmetics that Are out their just screaming their names!

Love the look for summer. Not sure if it will work for other red carpet events such as the Oscars or Emmys.
