Bleach London [1] is no stranger to unicorn-colored manes [2] — after all, it's the same hair hot spot credited with crafting rainbow roots [3]. The UK salon has just unveiled its newest coif creation: checkerboard hair.
The style consists of dye laid out in a series of squares (like a checkerboard) on the wearer's strands from root to tip to create an incredibly bold, eye-catching look. But even though it is a daring 'do, it doesn't require as much commitment as you might think. Salon cofounder Alex Brownsell actually used Bleach London's temporary hair color crayons [4] to draw on the design. The checkerboard will wash out after a few shampoos, making it a fun style to test at a music festival along with rainbow freckles [5].
We may not be ready to take on checkerboard hair ourselves, but we're excited about what this new trend means for the future of rainbow hair: patterns! Polka dot, paisley, and leopard spots could only be a short wait away. Read on to see this new design in action.
