Christina Hendricks Photoshopping Disaster

The NYT "Stretches" Christina Hendricks: Intentional or Not?

After the Golden Globes, fashion critic Cathy Horyn published a one-line takedown of actress Christina Hendricks's dress and had a quote from a stylist referring to Christina as "big." Now, while that may seem catty, it could possibly be regarded as a reference to Christina's rather impressive bosom instead of her overall size. (Playing devil's advocate.)

What made the article truly painful was the fact that Christina's picture had been badly stretched horizontally, making her actually appear larger, when in fact she's very svelte. The Times has changed out the photo, saying that it was an "error during routine processing," but many people don't believe that's the case. Either way, this doesn't do much to support the whole love-your-body-at-any-size message that some publications are trying to support. Do you think this was a purposeful attempt to distort Christina into looking "big," or was it just a Photoshopping accident?

you didn't need to call her fat to make your point that christina hendricks is curvy. that was ridiculous and unnecessary.

@studio16- if you're going to insult someone for no reason at all, shouldn't you at least know their name? it's gabourey sidibe.

I love her. You would think that someone would be double-checking information that's going to be put out. It's nice to see an actress that doesn't look like someone needs to feed her a sandwich. Now if this picture were printed somewhere else on this site all of the comments would be stating how she's pretty but fat she and how she needs to loose weight.

I agree -- whatever. She looks great in both photos. :)

I think she looks amazingly tiny in the first photo, but also very pretty in the stretched one. Her bosom is fabulous anyway and I think it's just fine that she shows it. :D Plus she was in my humble opinion the best dressed of the night.
They did it on purpose. Look up a picture of the woman who wrote the article. She looks like a lumberjack wearing lipstick. There was no reason for her to include the quote of some anonymous stylist except for spite. It was despicable.

I think she looks great, though the way she is posing isn't really helping things (meaning with her hip sticking out she is already accentuating her curves, so if there is an error or whatever it will just make it look more so)

I think she was the best looking woman of the night. The NYT commentator is an ass and quite frankly, I think the picture may have been intentionally stretched. I hope Christina doesn't think she has too lose more weight. She looks so wonderful right now!

Regardless of whether or not it was an accident, it's irresponsible and unprofessional to have a distorted photo on their website, especially to accompany an article like this. And "big girl"? Are you (bleep) kidding me?!

... Um. She's not big to begin with. Fat - girl from Precious (sorry, but it's true) Curvy - Christina Hendricks Curvy girls are usually average weight, maybe a bit chubby or overweight, but with nice hips and big boobs. So it irks me when they say Natalie Portman and Jessica Alba are curvy. True, they're not as skinny as the rest of the Hollywood set, but they've got average boobs. They're not curvy, just average.

Poor woman. She is either being praised for her ample bosom, or criticized for being "big", like she has no other qualities.

I think she is beautiful, but I would not describe her as svelte either by any means. I didn't care for her dress...she looks like she is jumping out of a cake at a bachelor party. Too much ruffle for me.

well, she looks incredible either way so no skin off her nose.

I thought she was pretty, aside that frou-frou dress (sorry I am biased against ruffles).

Whatever. She looks amazing.

There is a correction now up on the NY Times post that posted the bad picture. It says the picture was "slightly distorted inadvertently due to an error during routine processing." The right one is showing on the story now.

She's the best. Her chest is impressive though! The natural girls always look better. Cathy Horyn should put herself in the same dress and see if she add's up. Someone is jealous and it's distasteful. Maybe the designer too. I notice most designers are not the best looking people in the world, but they think their design should go on a perfect human.

Considering the fact that if you accidentally type in the wrong horizontal width of a picture while coding, it can look stretched like that on the Web, I'd say this was not intentional. for example: Scandalous! ;)

Ha... wish I looked half as good as she does in the "big" photo.... Seriously though she is not "big"... and if she were, what does it matter, as long as she's happy and HEALTHY? (I agree that to be very overweight is not good for one's health in the long run... but she's not even close to being a "little" overweight, by a long shot. She looks great... much better than some of the lollipop head types.) The only things I would change about the dress would be the top because it looks too small with her being so buxom... and the color. I agree with KKesquire, a deep jewel tone green or purple would have been breathtaking.

I don't really think it's intentional. I mean, newspaper photos are notoriously bad. Her chest is pretty incredible though.

I totally agree that in some respects (well, from the waist up), she looks better in the stretched photo; whether or not it was intentional, it would say little of the analytical skills of NYT readers if they couldn't see past the stretching of the pic
