Costume Makeup Tips For Halloween

Skip the Mask This Halloween With These Special Beauty Effects

While you're brainstorming costume ideas, consider this: you could transform your face with a pair of quirky contacts and Elmer's glue (no mask required). Allure has the tips you need to make the movie magic happen.

Masks are for amateurs. To me, nothing is more fun on Halloween than actually transforming your own face. It's easier than you think, and usually a lot more cost-effective than buying an elaborate mask anyway. All you need are a few supplies and a couple key tips.

1. Elmer's Glue:
To create wrinkles for a creepy witch costume, dab some glue on your forehead or cheeks, hold still while it dries (it should take about 5 minutes) and then scrunch up and move your face around. The glue will crack and wrinkle up in a clear-ish color. Then you can blend some foundation on top, and boom! — you'll have aged 50 years.

2. Sally Hansen Salon Airbrush Legs Leg Makeup ($14):
If you're doing a costume where you want to make your skin tone lighter or darker, you can drastically change it using these bottles of color and coverage. I recommend using the spray because you're going to want your body to match your face, so in lieu of wasting an entire bottle of foundation and at least 45 minutes blending it all over, you just pop open a can and spray your skin. Whether you are going lighter or darker, spray it on wherever you need it and wash it off at the end of the night. Just be sure to let it dry completely before letting it touch your clothes; they could get stained.

3. Colored Contacts:
Every color combo you can imagine is available, from sky blue to devil red. Some of them are scary enough to be the whole costume themselves! You'll be shocked at how different you look with an altered iris. (Be sure to visit your eye doctor and get his recommendation before purchasing these bad boys.)
