Do You Care About the Back of Your Hair?

Does the back of your hair get neglected? For me, unless I'm going somewhere really special or getting ready for a fancy event, I just don't bother. In fact, I recall an extremely honest stylist once telling me that if she's short on time, she'll spend the majority of her focus cutting the front sections — aka the part her clients see first.

Often, I have straight strands in the front as a result of my efforts, but then wavy patterns in the back as a result of my "out of sight, out of mind" hairstyling mentality. What about you? Do you flat iron, curl, blow-dry, or even comb the back of your locks, or do you just let it be?

I think I have a funny-shaped and small head, so I try to poof out the back a bit to make my head seem normal. I also hate to have a haircut where the back of my neck is showing, but somehow that's always what stylists end up doing to me. Grrr.

Ew, why would you ignore the back of your head?!

It's a pet peeve of mine to see girls with stick straight hair in the front and then the back is wavy or even kinda nasty and tangled. It's not hard to hold up a mirror and check the back to see if it even looks decent.

Absolutely. I have straight, thick hair, but I am very conscious of the overall shape of my hairstyle (read: my hairstyle's architecture), and it's hemline. I consider my hairstyle as a 3-D sculpture. This is how my hairdresser taught me to consider my hair, and that's how he approaches my hair.

My hair's relatively easy -- it's super straight. So I don't have to worry about the back as much because it generally looks the same no matter what I do!

I have curly wavy hair, so that's not an option.

Not paying attention to the back of your hair is like not brushing your back teeth.

I always make sure the back looks good.

I don't really do my hair... I don't even comb it every day. I have straight fine hair. I wash it at night, let it air dry/dry over night, and in the morning it looks like it does in my avatar. I'm lucky. However, I was (and am) obsessive, I would NOT wear pony tails in my hair when I was younger because I could not get the hair to lie the way I wanted it.

YES! But like a lot of other people are saying, i have wavy hair as well, and you can't just straighten part of your hair, it wouldn't look right. Even when i curl my hair, but it's easy for me, i have really long hair, so i can just pull it around to the front when i use a curling iron. The only way i'd understand it would be if you had a choppy hair cut, that was one of those blowdry and go styles. But when i see others do it, i think it just looks sloppy, either don't do your hair and have a bum day, or take the time to do it right and have some pride in how you look.

YES! I hate seeing people with straightened hair who don't do much about the back.

Haha, I thought I was the only one who neglected the back of my hair! I know others can see it, but I can't, so "out of sight, out of mind." That's not very logical, but oh well.

Yeah, I have to. My hair never sits right in general, and if I don't take care of all sides, including the back, it actually pushes my hair into a lopsided mound. It's really humid where I live, so hair will puff in a minute. I hold down each part and brush the other sides so it doesn't move - back included! [Then when I get it where it at least isn't sticking up, I put on holding spray to get it to stay!]

Yes. I feel like ppl see the whole head and if the back isn't right it takes away from the front no matter how good it looks. It's about the whole "do" in my opinion.

In the summer, I don't care. I blow or air dry my hair and how it ends up is what happens. In the winter I blow dry it everyday and I run the curling iron through everything - quickly. It's not too difficult because I have fine hair. I just have a ton of it.

Lucky me I have straight hair, and never do anything fancy with it, so this isn't an issue for me. :P

I do bow dry and flat iron the my whole head, but if a curl it I only do the front.

I hate when people don't straighten the back! If you can only straighten the top or front, pull the rest back.

It depends. I've been keeping my hair pretty short in the back, and it looks better when it's kind of messy and disheveled. But when it grows out a bit, I get this really annoying little flip at the bottom. That's when I spend forever trying to get it to stay down. I just got a cut last week, though, so there are no flippies at this point, and I've been ignoring the back of my head pretty much.

YES i care! i have very curly hair which i straighten every second day with a flat iron and i always spend time ensuring the back is fully straight without bumps. people see the back just cuz i can't.

That's so terrible that the stylist would say that, or more importantly, do that. My hair bothers me when I put it up in a ponytail or bun, I get that bump that is so hard to get rid of unless you spend twenty minutes straightening it. Oh, the joys of moldable, wavy hair.

I'm naturally really wavy and I always have this one stupid zigzag right at the crown in my hair no matter how much I straighten. It's annoying in photos but I don't try to do anything to it anymore.
