7 Summer Beauty Mistakes You're Probably Making, According to a Makeup Artist

Do You Carry Less Makeup as You Get Older?

Got that makeup bag handy? If so, take a peek inside and tally up the total price of all your beauty goodies. Are you surprised by the amount? (I was.) Even for low-maintenance beauties, it seems to be common to carry at least something in the ol' purse.

According to a survey of more than 1,000 women in the UK, not only are people still spending big bucks on beauty, but women spend differently depending on their age. While women 25 to 34 carried about $116 of makeup, those in the over-55 category carried less than $57 worth.

I'm betting a single pricey compact and a lipstick equal more than a bag full of the junk I toted around when I was a teen (and I've totally been weaning my purse supply from college to now). How has your makeup bag changed over the years, and do the products' prices still add up?

When I was a teenager I wore make up ALL the time. Lots of foundation, concealer (note: I had a pretty decent complextion), shadow, blush, lipgloss, mascara, eyeliner... the works. Now I'm 20 (almost 21) and for over a year now I don't wear make up at all, save for when I'm in a show or feel like looking nice (and even then it's limited to eyeliner, mascara and shadow). I look fine without it, why spend all my money on that when it could go to a new computer?

I carry more and spend more... but I'm only 19! Of course I didn't spend or carry much throughout my teenage years...

They needed a spend the same carry the same option. I have always carried a Chanel lip gloss ever since I was about 15 and a compact with powder, usually Lancome, sometimes Chanel. I am in my mid thirties now at home I have an array of colors. I rarely touch up my make-up during the day, unless it is a special occasion. I learned early on the bigger the purse the more unnecessary crap you carry, so I carry a very small purse. It works because I am forced to edit otherwise I would open up my bag and discover I had twelve glosses!

I really don't carry make up with me. If you apply it properly to begin with, you don't need to. The only thing I might carry is a tube of lipstick. When I was younger, my make-up bag was quite the security blanket though!

I must be the exception to the study. I'm over 50 and carry around more make up now than when I was in my 20s. I only starting wearing make up in the past 10 years or so as I've aged. Spend more and have more!!

When I find a lipstick or mascara I love (Diorshow for example), I will gladly pay the $24 for it.

I carry less but Spend MORE! Now that I'm going into my mid-20's I'm very conscious about getting older, and possible getting wrinkles! *gasp* So I make sure to buy high-quality products. As far as makeup goes, I try to keep it simple. My eyes are made up but the rest of my face is pretty simple, just a few things on the cheeks for my glowing complexion. I carry a reasonable amount just in case -- like mascara, liner, mineral foundation, concealer, powder, lip balm, lip gloss/stain/stick (depending) and I absolutely NEVER use it. I have done this since high school and never once needed it. I waste so much valuable space.

I carry more but actually use it less. I never touch up when I'm out so I'm not even sure why I take it with me. Just in case I guess.

I don't whether I'm old enough to answer the question, but I'm likely to be carrying no makeup or lipstick and/or lip balm. I'm lazier with makeup than I am with skin care. I also debate whether there's any point in owning a foundation/powder I wouldn't use enough of by the time I'm supposed to get rid of it.

I'm spending less (at the moment, at least) but carrying more makeup now. I've always loved makeup but have gotten into it even more over the last year or so. I at least like to take powder, lip balm, lipstick and lip gloss with me so I have some options :).

I'm in my later 30's and have really just gotten into makeup and skincare after a decade or so of the natural little to no makeup thing. I'm spending more on quality products but don't carry it around like I did in my early 20's.

I actually carry more b/c I just got into make-up. I've always been into skin care but just started buying make-up.

I carry less and spend less. Mainly because I realized Rimmel is just as good as any products I ever bought at Sephora. Plus I have a makeup routine I use everyday and i know exactly what I need. There isn't a lot of experimentation going on anymore.
