Do You Match Your Shampoo and Conditioner? 2010-07-19 09:01:15

Do You Match Your Shampoo and Conditioner?

Shampoo and conditioner are usually meant to go together, but there's no law that says it has to happen that way. Some people refuse to use Brand X's conditioner after washing with Brand Y's shampoo, while others show a rebellious streak by mixing things up. Shampoo and conditioner are an especially big bone of contention, since we tend to use them in conjunction. So what camp are you in? And have you ever wondered why you've developed the preference you have?

I def mix and match. I adore dove shampoo and conditioner for everyday use. But I mix up my conditioners and combine my dove with a few deep conditioners 3 days a week. Isn't it strange how some people can have great results and others terrible from the same product? Love: Dove Hate: Herbal Essences Love: Aveda Hate: Pantine

I buy them together, but since shampoos tend to finish earlier than conditioners I and up mixing it up

I use an expensive shampoo for color treated hair and a cheaper conditioner. My stylist told me that I don't have to match the brands (she usually sells me the matched set) so I can save a few dollars.

I used to, but now I mix and match. I even use more than one conditioner at a time hehe. A different one for the ends and one for the midsection. I generally go for a volumising conditioner and anti-oily shampoo

I always match my shampoo with my conditioner or I will get the whole system.

Haha. I usually use a fancy shampoo and cheap conditioner! Shampoo goes on your scalp so I'm generally more careful about the ingredients in that compared to what I stick on the ends of my hair. I generally use an all natural shampoo and whatever moisturizing conditioner happens to be on sale.

No matter how much I try to convince myself that its nothing but marketing schemes and shallow aesthetics to match my bottles, I always match. The only exception are for having a clarifying shampoo and deep conditioner on hand for infrequent use. I like the idea of using a cheap shampoo and fancy conditioner. I may try that!

No. Not always. I used Matrix shampoo and Fred Fekkai conditioner for a couple months. But now, I'm stuck with this set of huge bottle of shampoo and conditioner dualsenses/color by Goldwell. I don't really like them. It makes my head look super oily after one day. I'm very picky over shampoo and conditioner. It has to not turn my hair greasy after precisely 2 days so if I have to wash my hair, I could wait until the end of the day. Not the morning or if I could skip it. heheh.

@shoegirl365 Oh god, I hate dove for hair products. Made my hair feel terrible. @Post I never used to care much, but lately I've got hooked on one brand, so I keep buying their shampoo/conditioner

Yes. I match the brand & scent. It really bothers me if they don't match.

I usually try to, but I use up conditioner so much faster than shampoo. Plus, I just switched brands on the advice of my stylist, so I have some products in my shower that I still have to use up.

I try to use the same brand when possible, but if I run out of one or the other and I'm itching to try a new brand, I'll keep using what I've got left until it runs out. Lately I've been trying to go completely SLS-free with my shampoo, and if that works out well maybe one day I will also become a "conditioner only" girl, too.

I think they're meant to go together, so I buy the same ones.

The only hair product I use is shampoo.

I use the "No Poo" method. I only use conditioner now for my hair washes. But, before using this method, I didn't match.

I try to match them, but I use more shampoo than conditioner so sometimes I wanna finish a bottle before buying a new one. I love to try new products and my mom's an hairdresser.

I agree with Chrstne, Once I finish a "brand", I always try a new one. This way I have discovered that Neutrogena will always be my fall back product and Dove does terrible things to my hair.

I usually match my shampoo and conditioner, mostly because I try new products every month, and I like to test the "set".
