Do You Think Beauty Supplements Work?

A new study reports that Brits spend £37 million (almost $75 million) on beauty supplements such as Borba and Perfectil. I've gotta be honest with you: I've tried supplements, and all they've done is aggravate my skin. Some friends rave about them, but I've tried three different brands and haven't seen anything close to the amazing results that were promised. So I want to know: Do you take beauty supplements? Do you think they work, or is it all a bunch of bunk?Source

I take Dr. Perricone Skin and Body supplements. However, I only take one small packet a day. The instruction tells me to take four small packets (two large packets) a day, and that is just too much for me to handle.

I question any type of vitamin or mineral in a pill or tablet form. The process of actually creating the pill involves intense heat and vitamins aren't the most stable substance. Any value from the pill is hugely diluted in the process of creating it. A great multivitamin in capsule or liquid form is the way to go. As far as taking prenatal vitamins for healthy hair and skin... it definitely can work because prenatal vit are basically a power dose of vitamins.... one draw back is you might spend most of the day on the toilet because it makes things very.....runny, if you know what I mean.

I've just started taking biotin and fish oil supplements. I guess I'm kind of a vitamin junkie, but I'm not quite sure if they work or not... yet!

I've never taken Borba or the other one, but I have taken Appearex for my nails and it did make my nails really hard. My nails have always grown really long, but this made them hard. I've also taken fish oil pills - I'm not sure if they did anything spectacular for me, and I take a multivitamin now. I'd be willing to take Helioplex bc it would help with blocking out the sun.

What are they exactly? Will your body take to them better than topical products?

i take a multi-vitamin and i drink vitamin water when i can. not really for beauty but the vitamins can't hurt that either. i agree with lippy, i'd be sketchy about taking a vitamin put forth by a beauty company

I haven't but they'd be worth checking out as long as all the ingredients were natural and just vitamins and minerals.

I used to take a hair, skin, and nails supplement, but honestly it didn't do anything for me that a daily multivitamin couldn't do.

ive heard prenatal vitamins work really well from hair from the people at a beauty salon.

I would think that they would work well since health comes from inside out, but if they have too much of a certain vitamin in them they could aggravate your skin, especially if you already eat food containing that vitamin. Too much zinc aggrevates my stomach too.

a multi vitamin is always good when we stress ourselves out and eat crappy food drink too much or not enough hahah cuz your body needs help from time to time but the best source of these nutrients should probably be from their natural food bi-products.

i don't take beauty supplements per se, but i do take a few vitamins that are linked to beauty: biotin for hair and nail health, omega-3 for skin and hair (extra bonus for heart health!), and alpha lipoic acid as an antioxident protectant. i also take a flinstones multi-vitamin and calcium chews. whew - i sure am keeping those vitamin people in business!!
