Does a Celebrity Influence Your Shopping Decisions?

Celebrity endorsements are one of the oldest marketing tricks in the book. Take, for instance, Jessica Szohr of Gossip Girl fame. The actress was spotted checking out fragrances like DKNY's DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Blossom EDP Spray ($55 to $70) and Island Michael Kors Bermuda EDP Spray ($62) in these totally candid and not-at-all-staged photos.

So whether it's an age-old celebrity endorsement or product of their own, like Jessica Simpson's cult-favorite Fancy, does any of that make an impact on your purchasing decisions? Let me know below, and then have some pure, unadulterated fun by testing what you know about star endorsements in parts one and two of my celebrity infomercial quizzes.

It totally depends on who and why is she wearing such product. I don't buy the official endorsements but, as some people commented above, when they're actually wearing something in an "non-staged/endorsement" way I'd be more inclined to make a purchase.

No. I decided to try Garnier Fructis because I saw Taylor Swift recommend it, but I wouldn't continue using it if I didn't love it.

The way the fragrance mixes with my skin in key. Celebrity endorsements are not a deciding factor.

Sometimes it piques my interest if I'm a fan, but it doesn't override any other decision making criteria when I consider a product.

I have the same thoughts as a lot of you. Just because Jessica Alba is wearing something isnt going to make me buy it, but seeing how they do certain things gives me ideas. Also, I too despise Jessica Simpson but really like her perfume. I do let celebrities influence what movies I see though, but I guess thats their job.

Sugar this was staged, she was shooting a clip for the E channel's show the daily 10 about shopping ideas for mother's day. =)

I actually actively avoid buying anything that has a celebrity attached to it - even if I like the product. I just find that there's something a little desparate and tacky about some rich celeb endorsing a product to get more money.

I am more apt to checking something out if it is not a paid endorsement. Say for example, when celebrities share their makeup favorites or something, as opposed to a makeup brand they are being paid to represent.

Nope; I may like the celeb however I won't just buy a product because of them. I have to know it will work for me and my tastes.

Sometimes I get fashion inspiration from celebs whose style I admire (i.e. Rachel Bilson), but that's about it. I like being myself :)

it might make me notice it because of the celebrity but if i don't like it there is no greater chance of me buying something just because of them.

i don't really go out to the mall specifically for one thingthat a celebrity was wearing, but if i am in the mall and happen to see it or something like it, then I might try it on or test out prouducts. overall though, i'm gonna have to go for a no

I don't think so. I mean, if anything, they can make me not buy something. I pretty much ignore who the brands use for advertising their products, but I can't ignore when celebrity names are on the products! For example, I simply can't bring myself to buy a fragance that says J.Lo or Beyonce. Not because I don't like them, but because I'd feel like a 12 year old!

Not so much the explicit product endorsements, but if a celebrity favors certain make-up, clothes etc (that they're not necessarily endorsing) then I'm more likely to favor them too. But only because they have access to all the best and if they single something out then it must be good.

I don't buy celebrity endorsed products. They have all the time, money and stylists to make them pretty with (other) products and probably don't use the cheap stuff I buy anyway. The only celebrity-designed item I'd buy are Natalie Portman's vegan shoes. They look really cute.

The new commercial for Chanel No. 5 with Audrey Tatou would've pretty much sold the deal for me on the perfume, had I not known what it smells like and completely loathed it. Maybe if she does something similar for a scent that's more bearable, I wouldn't think twice before handing up my cash. Mind you, I'm not her biggest fan, but she carries herself similarly to me...I think that's what it comes down to.

I said no, but I'm sure there have been times when I've bought something in part because of a celebrity endorsement. Those things stay with you. But I also agree with gothamgal--sometimes I won't buy something specifically because of the celebrity. Like, I am anti-Jessica Simpson shoes even though they are usually cute and reasonably priced, and I will never buy a celebrity perfume.

Sometimes a celebrity endorsement will turn me off and I have to try to overcome that, because the product might be great.

Clothes and fragrance, no. Makeup, definitely -- but not what they're advertising. I love finding out what they're actually wearing on the red carpet, and sometimes buy products based on that.

It's no for me. Celebrity endorsements as far as I am concerned merely make products more visible, but then again the same result is achieved with heavy promotion with an unknown model. But I would never buy anything I don't like just because of who the spokesperson is. Now celebrity "designed" items are a whole other matter. I simply ignore all of it (fragrance, clothing line etc).Mind you, it doesn't matter if I like the said celeb or not.

not really, they can make me aware of what's the ''it''thing at the moment, but that's all.

Not at all. I buy products based on reviews I read online or recommendations from friends and sometimes magazines. As for the quizzes, I got 0/5 & 1/5. Hmmm.
No they don't. I find it really hard to believe some celebs wear drugstore makeup when they can afford high end makeup. So those drugstore ads never make me want to buy. Now if I see a celeb shopping and they are purchasing something, I will wanna know what it is and I am totally interested in what they bought and why.
