Ellen DeGeneres The New Face of Cover Girl

Beauty Byte: CoverGirl Signs Ellen DeGeneres

Beginning in January, newlywed Ellen DeGeneres will appear in CoverGirl ads. In an official statement released today, a company spokesperson said, "Her beauty and down-to-earth personality fit perfectly with what CoverGirl represents." Ellen's low-key appeal may make her a much more modern and relatable CoverGirl than, say, Christie Brinkley. What do you think of this surprising pairing?

Shut up!! I can't see her as the spokesmodel for a makeup company. That is just too weird. I might not buy their stuff anymore.

I love it! Ellen is much more the type of beauty that most women are then say a model or big time actress.

I love it! I think it's a brilliant idea. moving away from the "idealized" beauty to someone more realistic/real is a great move.

i do think it's a bit surprising, but i love ellen and i agree.. she would appeal to other demographics that covergirl might be seeking. she's got the whole low-key, less is more thing with makeup, so i think it's a good move

I love Cover Girl's choice; Ellen is a wonderful person and I think she can appeal to all ages. She shows a relate-able and down to earth style. I cannot wait to see the ads.

I really like Ellen, but as a makeup model?? IS THIS FOR REAL? I can't wait to see the ads!

Although she wouldn't nessecarily encourage me to buy makeup I think it's cool maybe they will reach a larger market and encourage inclusive advertisement.

I like Ellen, but I thought it was kind of a weird choice. I don't see her as someone who wears a lot of makeup, and she doesn't really do the "glamorous" thing like Queen Latifa or a lot of their other spokesmodels.

I like this idea. It just shows that you don't have to be sexy to be beautiful. Congrats Ellen.

I definitely think it's an interesting move on Cover Girl's part, but probably very smart. A lot of women think that make up requires a huge time and monetary commitment which many don't have, so Ellen would probably that little can go a long way. You don't have to look like you have make up on to wear make up, just accentuate the positive, play down the not-so-positive.

I guess she'll fit in with the group of women that like super natural makeup, to the point where it doesn't look like you're wearing any. I think it's a smart move to widen their demographic!

I think it is odd.... I wouldn't picture Ellen as someone who wears makeup outside of her TV show. I think Portia would have been the better fit.

It's an unusual thought, and I'm usually not all that fond of the "real women" beauty ad campaigns (sorry--I'm a beauty purist ;) ), but I do like this. It's a smart move on Cover Girl's part; it'll help appeal to more consumers.
