The organization has repealed the approval for the use [2] of toxic chemical compound lead acetate from hair coloring products. While few hair coloring products on the US market still contain lead [3], it has been in dyes sold to gradually recolor gray hair [4], NBC News reported.

Exposure to lead has been "linked to developmental issues, reduced fertility, organ system toxicity, cancer, and other serious health problems [5]," according to Melanie Benesh, legislative attorney at EWG. To that we say, good riddance.
