5 Great Go-To Lip Colors Chosen by You

Looking for a new lip color? Earlier this week, I asked you about your go-to lip shades, and you delivered. Whether you have warm undertones or your skin skews on the cool side, there's something here for everyone. From bold and bright to soft and versatile, here are five reader-approved lip shades. Get the details when you read more.

  • Bare Escentuals Buxom Gloss in Ginger ($18), a cognac-toned shimmer, was recommended by alf9280. Who can wear it: This warm cinnamon shade probably works better on warmer skin tones. However, it does have a slight reddish tint to it with golden sparkle, giving it a universally flattering appeal.
  • Don't like to fuss much? Reader chloe bella recommends NARS Lipstick in Belle du Jour ($24), a sheer beige with the slightest hint of color. Who can wear it: What makes this hue great is that it allows you to play up your eyes with bright, trendy shades like turquoise. It also just begs to be paired with a smoky eye.
  • Skelly1029 is all for NARS Lip Gloss in Orgasm ($24), a pinky-peach shade. Who can wear it: Flattering golden undertones coupled with a flattering pink hue give it widespread appeal.
  • "It is just a nice wash of color that doesn't come off," says bellazmom of CoverGirl Lipstain in Everbloom Kiss ($8). "I like it with a little lip balm on top," she adds. Who can wear it: This cool berry pink is gorgeous on cooler-toned skin. It would also wear well under a golden gloss for those who prefer to tone it down.
  • "In warmer months, my go-to color is usually in the coral color family. . . Sometimes I reach for a heavier coverage [like], Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Coral Crush ($7.50)," says postmodernsleaze. Who can wear it: Coral is surprisingly more versatile than you'd expect. It is flattering on warm skin tones but also provides an unexpected twist for those with cooler tones, especially for green or blue eyes. Tip: dab coral lipstick on your cheeks for a pretty, warm flush.

flickster, I am not a redhead but my skintone is like that of a redhead. I am super pale and have a ton of freckles. I have blue eyes. I have pinky undertones. I'm not sure if the red hair will throw off the color wheel I'm trying to work here (my hair is medium-dark ash brown), but I have a lot of luck with corals (even though I've read a lot of magazines that say cool-toned pale people should avoid them). One of my favorites besides the Maybelline one already mentioned is Stila's liptick in a shade called Molly. It's a little bright and intense if you go full coverage, but it can be softened if just dabbed and blotted a lot. If lipsticks are just too intense for you to pull off, I absolutely adore L'Oreal's Jelly Balms. Two of my favorites for summer are the shades Savory (a very sheer, mild pop of peach) and Ripe (a bright pinky red). I love them because they are buildable. You can make the color a little more intense or you can dab it lightly for just a little extra punch. I love the texture too. It's sort of like Mac lipglass and Vaseline had a baby. Not too sticky, not too greasy. Another one I like (I believe it's discontinued, but it is still easily found on the internet) is Rimmel Cool Shine Lipstick in Soak (054). It is a very sheer lipstick that is a nice peachy coral shade. I love it. It smells a little soapy, but the color is really pretty. It looks like it has huge chunks of glitter in it, but they don't come off on your lips and cause a gross grainy feeling. It's one of my favorites. Hope I helped a little bit!

Flickster, Have you tried the NARS Lip Gloss in Orgasm? It sounds a lot like what you're looking for. It's not really a coral hue, but it sounds like your lips already have more of a warm pigment. Adding a soft pink with gold flecks might just be the right balance.

ok I know it says "who can wear it" but half of them only say what makeup to wear with them and that doesn't tell me who can wear it!! I am a very pale natural red head and have ISSUES with lipstick. A lot of pinks end up looking orange on my face! also red looks bad. and blue based anything looks super dark and makes me skin look washed out. plz help? I want something that would look on my face like the lipstick in the picture looks on that girl. a peachy goldish coral that is almost sheer, but still pretty..?
