We Answered Every Beauty Question You Asked Google This Year, Because We Gotchu

What did we do before we could Google? (For some of you, an AskJeeves reference isn't lost.) But seriously, how did we find what ingredients were in our favorite beauty products? Or how long to wait to after getting a spray tan?

Or, for the year of 2018: how did we learn to apply magnetic lashes? Are lash lifts worth the time and money? How to find the best hair color for our skin tones? According to Google's annual Year in Search, those were just a few of the top trending beauty searches people found themselves puzzled over — but hopefully found plenty of answers to.

In the event your question went unanswered, we gotchu. Keep reading to learn what was asked the most on the Google this year, plus the answers and suggestions from us POPSUGAR beauty editors.

"How to Apply Magnetic Lashes"

Magnetic lashes took late 2017 and most of 2018 by storm, with brands like Ardell getting into the trend after One Two Cosmetics started the wave. The beauty community really wanted to know if magnetic lashes were easier to apply than your average faux lash — especially since some are pricey. We have a few reviews to help you decide for yourself.

"What Is a Lash Lift?"

Lash Perms, also known as Lash Lifts, were are a big topic of conversation this year. As the trend swept Instagram, people were curious about what exactly the service is, how long it lasts, and if it's damaging to your lashes.

"How to Remove Individual Eyelashes"

Notice a trend? In years past, we've been inundated with brow questions, but this year, it was all about lashes. We noticed this trend on the site, too: you guys love reviews about mascaras, faux lashes, and lash treatments. How to remove individual lashes piqued people's interest this year. So how do you do it correctly?

It can be a little tough, given individual lashes are meant to look more natural than strip lashes and thus blend into your natural lashes. The last thing you want to do is rip out your own eyelashes. (We're skeeved out just typing that.) For an extra gentle touch, remove your eye makeup with a gentle eye-makeup remover. If it's oil-based, the lashes should slide right off. Another method is the double cleanse: rinse your face, and wash it normally, which will loosen up the lashes. Then go in with an oil or gel cleanser that's safe to use for your eyes to remove them completely.

"What Hair Color Looks Best on Me"

This question is fairly generic -— how is Google supposed to know what you look like? But the basis tends to be centered around skin tone. We have plenty of articles to help you decide on your next shade.

"How to Do Cat Eye"

You read that correctly. "How to do cat eye" (sic) was a most-Googled search question. (Hey, search language is pretty different from how we typically communicate.) The cat eye, or winged liner, is a classic look that hasn't left the beauty zeitgeist and has no plans of going anywhere.

"How to Apply Aloe Vera"

Maybe people got too much sun this year? (In which we must remind you: always reapply your SPF.) Whatever the reason, they wanted to know how to apply aloe vera. There are plenty of aloe options out there that only require a quick squirt and slather onto the skin, but if you're planning on using the real plant, there's a few things to know.

Break a leaf of aloe vera from the plant, then cut the ends off. From here, you will slice the skin on the top and bottom of the aloe vera gel off. Once you're left with the gel, it's best to blend it so you can easily apply it as a paste, but you can use the fillet of gel directly on the skin if you wish.

"How to Glue Down Eyebrows"

Without context, this would sound odd. But in the beauty world, we know this could be to completely conceal the brows or to keep the brows coiffed in place. Gluing down the brows is deeply rooted in drag history; performers often glue down their brows to conceal them, then add setting powder and concealer. They repeat the process as necessary until the brows virtually disappear. Afterward, they draw new brows, either higher, lower, or over their natural brows.

"How to Take Off Makeup Without Makeup Wipes"

We have a feeling blogger Caroline "Wipes are for Fannies, Flights and Festivals" Hirons has something to do with this one. Makeup wipes are easy to use, sure. The ultimate "lazy girl hack," right? But they shouldn't be the only step in your skincare routine, as many are loaded with alcohol. This year, Neutrogena responded to backlash after customers complained that their fan-favorite wipes were burning their skin. While we do love a good makeup wipe, here are some tried and true products we're loving in lieu of them.

"How to Fix Cakey Makeup"
POPSUGAR Photography | Diggy Lloyd

"How to Fix Cakey Makeup"

Probably one of the most common beauty faux pas, nobody wants to look caked with makeup. But if you need full coverage or have oily/combination skin, it can be a challenge, since typically heavier makeup is needed to cover up hyperpigmentation, and matte products help with oil issues. One easy tip? Once you set your face with powder, don't apply any liquid products on top. This can create the "cakey" effect you want to avoid. Although, we have learned that if you apply a little powder over a blemish, it can hold onto concealer better. Food for thought.
