It is so important to do all it takes to stop that garbage island in the ocean. Im baffled by the amount of stuff each person on developed countries accumulates. I for one am getting rid of the majority of my belongings one by one (donating, giving away, etc).

My entire house is stocked with compact fluorescent bulbs and I've also traded my water bottles for a tap purifier! I only buy local produce and meats. All of my laundry gets washed in cold water. No plastic bags at the store...I bring my own cloth bags! Everything electronic, powered by a remote, stays on a power strip so that when I leave they go off...really off! Not only are these changes better for the enviroment but its also keeping more money in my pocket at the end of the month! The light bulbs are the only things that were mildly more expensive but in the long run you save money! They last 10 times longer than an average light bulb and they save in electricity costs! They brought my electric bill down almost $50 a month!

i live in the philippines and garbage disposal is worst here..people have no discipline in throwing their garbage..there were projects about proper disposal but there are no programs on how to educate the people on how important it is to us. I wish we will all have a strong initiative to learn to be earth friendly..anyways, we will all be affected on the effects of what we are doing..i wish and hope that our politicians will concentrate more on the projects of saving the earth and programs on how we could be earth friendly rather than concentrating on what they can corrupt from the government and people...

I purchased a Brita filter about a year ago and I love it. Not only do I save money, but I also help the environment. I don't know everything about Earth friendly products, but my goal is to take a strong initiative to learn.

I use the brita filter that goes on the faucet at home and use my own bags at the grocery store. I just saw the Earth-Day Oprah that showed the plastic garbage in the Pacific that is twice the size of Texas and 90 feet deep. It was really sad.

I just moved back home from austin and I am not satisfied with the recycling program. In austin they give you a 10 gallon blue recyling bin that you can throw in paper, cardboard, glass, plastics #1-7 ...just much more of a variety of things that doesn't go in the trash bin. Where as here at home, it's just #1-2 and paper. I was told that if you have questions or concerns in your community, don't be afraid to write a letter to your representative! And that's exactly what i'm going to do-ask why a much nicer and richer neighborhood/city can't afford a better recycling program (note i lived in a really crummy and ghetto part of austin)!

I've recently stopped buying water bottles and I bought one of those large Sigg bottles. I bought one for me, my husband and our two kids. Not only am I saving money and doing good for the environment, but my whole family is drinking more water! It's great!
