Have You Ever Altered Your Appearance After a Bad Experience?

Sadly, a high school friend's father recently passed away. The other day my friend made a Facebook announcement that he'd like to get a tattoo in remembrance of his dad. Several people commented that they, too, have gotten some ink after a sad life event. Call it somewhat of a therapeutic release, if you will. This got me to thinking. Have you ever done a little piercing and/or inking after a bad breakup? Or perhaps you've gone from a raven-haired look to a platinum blond when your significant other did you wrong. Whatever the case, please dish about your appearance altering experiences — running from the law aside.

Almost checked "No" but then if you count new hairdo, then "Yes." Definitely no tattoos for me.

I often get a haircut after a bad guy experience...but i've never gotten my hair cut too short, even though i always feel the urge to just chop it all off, while sitting in my stylists chair im consciously aware that i would NOT look good with short hair. Eventually im going to cut it really short though, and i know it'll feel good.:)

Yes, and I regret to this day. :) After a particularly bad break-up, I needed a change. I permed my healthy, long locks of hair. My hair was so damaged, it was beyond repair. So I ended up cutting it all off to a pixie-style haircut. Although short hair did suit me, I missed my long, flowing hair. I recently grown my hair relatively long, and it's in thick, healthy condition. It's not as long as it was (before the perm). It's getting there, but I still regret what I did. In my heartache, I destroyed years of healthy hair growth in one salon sitting.

After an exhausting on/off relationship with my ex boyfriend, I had decided to get a tattoo - "breathe". As "LiLo" as it may sound, it was to reference the quote "this too shall pass". I was not religious at the time, so I did not want it to relate to any part of a religious culture. And now that I am a Christian, it has amped up its meaning from its origin. It signified all the things that I was troubled with and couldn't get over, but knowing that these troubles are only temporary gave me the motivation to be positive, to this day. And the best part is...all this greatness came out of something dark, something I don't even associate my ink to anymore. =) God bless.

I had my hair sort of short/medium when my ex-fiance and I got together, but he wanted me to grow it long for the wedding. So when he cheated on me, I went and chopped it all off, and it still wasn't short enough! I finally have it where I want it and it feels great, I love it :)

I generally wear my hair very long, but after my baby sister's husband of one month was killed in a tragic car accident, I cut my hair very short. It suited me, so I may do it again-- but I just needed to feel like I could change something and make some new memories... it's painful to lose someone so young. He meant so much to my sister, too, so it's still hard to deal with, 7 months later.

Usually a drastic haircut makes me feel like I am starting a new chapter.

Never have but have thought about it - believe me. Think I never did it bc of thinking, well what if I just feel A Lot wrse after. I am still young so I would def. not rule it out in the future. I'm sure I have many dramas ahead of me unfortunately but that's life I guess.

I got dumped & cut my hair super short afterward. As a result, my now-boyfriend took notice.

After my brother passed away I thought about getting a tattoo to "honor" him but when I thought it through I realized that in my situation it wasn't appropriate. Not only did my brother hate tattoos but I do too! I didn't need to put something on my body to help me remember him.

I had the roommate from hell during part of my junior year of college, and the experience spurred a nervous breakdown that included chopping off my long, very curly hair. As fellow curly-heads know, a cut above the ears results in something.....well, less than flattering. Whoops.

I butchered my LONG hair to a pixie cut once after my first boyfriend hurt my feelings really bad. I had wanted to go to much shorter hair but he protested because he liked my hair. Well he did something completely over the top, I figured he lost my respect for his opinions and went to a stylist.

Nothing along the lines of a tattoo but a new hair color or cut, sure. More do on the hair color since it's easily fixed.

Guess I should have added this was after me and my ex-husband split. I did it because those were things that he wouldn't "let" me do when we were together, so it was just me being me and being free.

I am the Queen of cutting my hair short after life changing events! It feels like all the bad stuff is trapped into my hair, so by cutting it off, I'm reborn! Thankfully I haven't gone through anything traumatic recently, so I haven't done a drastic cut. I highly encourage it, and then donate to Locks of Love!

Cutting my hair is always my go to. There something satisfying about it. It's harmless self mutilation when you're in pain and it's instant gratification when your not. Just like that, your entire look changes.

I just had a pretty awkward and melodramatic spring break with a large group of friends. After looking at photos from the trip, I considered myself the most unattractive girl in the group. Until now, my morning routine was basic hygiene, putting my hair in a ponytail, and grabbing the first shirt and pair of jeans off the shelf. Now I cut my hair, style it every morning, and I bought a few makeup items. It's amazing what complements you can get from simply wearing olive green eyeliner and letting your hair down with some Frizz-Ease.

Years ago, I was engaged during college (when I was way too young to know what that really means). My fiancee broke up with me and I lost tons of weight, got contacts, a new haircut, and really started to get into makeup and fashion. One of my ex's best friends saw me and said he liked my new look and that my fiancee was crazy to break up with me. It was a great start to a new life and a newly-found sense of confidence. I have never done this since then because I think I really found out who I was through the whole experience and I really like who I became!

I always get a breakup haircut. there is just something so satisfying about physically getting rid of a "piece of your past." gives you a fresh start, i think =]
