How To: Get Sarah Michelle Gellar's Lovely London Look

How To: Get Sarah Michelle Gellar's Lovely London Look

I really love how pretty Sarah Michelle Gellar looked at her recent appearance at Harrods. She looks soft, fresh and polished—and totally appropriate for a daytime appearance. For step-by-step instructions for recreating her makeup look at home,

  • Step One: Apply a light primer on the face. Shiseido Brightening Veil ($32) contains SPF, and it helps give skin a dewy finish.

  • Step Two: You can see a couple of Sarah's freckles here, so don't use a heavy foundation; the idea is to illuminate your skin, not paint over it. Cover any blemishes with concealer; lately I've really enjoyed using wand concealers such as Automatic Concealer from Sue Devitt. Then, use a sheer-to-medium coverage foundation to even out skin tone. I like Vincent Longo Water Canvas ($52.50) because it's light, but Almay makes a less expensive foundation that's similarly easy to apply.

  • Step Three: Use a cream blush on the apples of your cheeks. MAC's Cream Colour Base in Hush ($16.50) adds warmth (and, as a bonus, has the same name of the only Buffy episode to receive an Emmy nomination).

  • Step Four: Using an eye shadow brush, sweep a dark mauve shadow on lids. Then, sweep a shimmery pinky-champagne shadow on lids just underneath the brow bone, gently blending it downward into the mauve shadow. Clinique's Colour Surge duo in Mochaberry ($17.50) does the trick. (If you want a more dramatic eye, try applying the shadow with a damp brush.)

  • Step Five: Line the upper lids with a thin application of black liquid eyeliner, such as Rimmel Get In Line ($5.99). Follow by curling upper eyelashes (click here for instructions) and swiping black mascara on them to set.

  • Step Six:Well-groomed brows are essential to Sarah's look. Brush your eyebrows upward and go over them with a brow powder to fill in any gaps. If you're really serious, use a clear brow mascara or a light wax to hold the shape. The Anastasia Brows in Bloom kit ($28) has the powder, wax, an angled brush for application, and a highlighter—pretty much everything you'd need to get Sarah's brows.

  • Step Seven:Lips are glossy but richly hued; Sarah's wearing a nude lip liner, but unless you're going to be photographed in front of hundreds of people, you could probably skip it. Instead, go for a high-shine, opaque gloss in a sparkly mauve, such as MAC Lip Varnish in Cute Yet Sexy ($14). An apropos name for SMG's look, wouldn't you say?

That's just an unfortunate photos in general. Here are a few better shots from the premiere:

Vienvien - She doesn't have zits lol. She has really good skin actually. What you might be seeing are freckles which aren't as covered up as they usually are. She's wearing very little concealer; if she had zits to hide, I'm sure she would be wearing more. Katel - Her lips haven't been done. I don't know why everyone's suddenly saying this. They've always looked like that. There are photos when she's around 16 (when the dark red lipstick look was in) and her lips look exactly the same. The fuller lips effect can be created with make-up. You can see that the lipstick/liner goes beyond her natural lip line not to mention she's wearing gloss and probably some plumper. Her lips don't normally look that "full" and they didn't in the newest pics of her shopping in London or at the Hairspray premiere in London.

I think her lips look done (Restalyne or something)...

Maybe my love of Buffy has blinded me! But take a look at this picture. It was taken from further back and I think it might give you a less-shiny view of SMG. What do you think?

Don't like it one her! Not a good pic.

eh she doesn't look that good to me, no offense to anyone. It's just a bit too close and you can see all that "natural" make up doesn't look quite so natural... :(

I think this is not really a "good look" for her. I thnk her face is too oily and her zits and spots still show. Is concealer a must-have in one lady's make-up bag? And the zits are too disturbing to look at, especially on her chin. I don't thnk it's the lights but it's just bad make-up application.

Its a pretty look, but there's just something about it that I can't put my finger on that's just making me go "eh" maybe it's that the lights have made her shiny. Cause the other shots from the event were very cute.

It takes a little practice, and I definitely recommend using makeup brushes. Here's a guide to different kinds. I find that it's easier to blend light colors into darker ones; that way the colors blend without getting muddy. One thing that might be helpful is to practice on your hand before going to your eyes. I sometimes do that if I want to see what various colors will look like, since it's easier to clean off your paws than your peepers!

I love how her eyes look but I have a really hard time blending eye shadows. I dont know if I dont have the right tools, or just lack skills. Any one have any tips?

I see what you mean. I think the shine is from the lighting, because she looked pretty cute (and not so shiny) in other pictures. But who knows, maybe SMG has T-zone troubles like the rest of us!

Oh Bella, I love Sarah but the only thing i'm liking from this picture is her lips! Her skin looks really oily. It distracts from her really pretty face. But thanks for the tips, I think theyre really interesting and hopefully i'll try them soon!
