How Much Do You Tip for a Manicure?

I normally do my manicures at home, but every now and then I like to splurge on one at a spa or salon. I'm curious: How much do you tip?

We don't tip in Australia!

20 percent is usually safe more or less depending.

I'm very picky about my nails so I tip VERY well!!! I go to the same person all the time so he's used to me by now. But I appreciate him putting up with me!

depends on the service. if it looks fine, but the person wasnt that friendly...then no tip... if it looks fab and they put the effort it to make me comforttable then 10% plus

I'm usually a very extravagant tipper, but it depends if I feel the manicure is overpriced -- some salons are pretty steep, but still 15-20%.

$5 to $10 depending on what I'm getting done. Or even more.

I usually give my chick about $5-7. But then the other day I was picking up dinner at the restaurant next door and saw her getting into her car. She drives a flipping Lexus! I drive a Ford Focus. What the heck? She's not even that good!

I don't agree at all with "if you can't give a big tip, don't go." For starters, the tip is that - a tip. Not compensation. It's not even required. Sure I think it's bad manners to not give anything at all, but I don't think that someone who can only cover the cost plus a small tip should be excluded from being able to have one.

I don't have manicure/pedicure that often, therefore when I decided to go out and have them, I really splurge with my tip especially if I enjoyed the treatment (much more than 20% usually). If I don't (which is real rare), I still tip the 10-15% area, I've known people in service industry, therefore it's just in "me" to tip a little more. :)

for a regular manicure usually 5$...the manicures only cost 7-8$ so I think that is pretty good.

I tip $10...esp. if it's a really good mani or pedi. I figure they probably don't get paid much and I appreciate how nice it looks!

To any who says they can't afford a big tip: if you can't afford to properly compensate the manicurist, don't go get a manicure!!

It also depends on how good they are at their job

I never leave less than a $5 tip whether i'm getting my nails done or out to lunch. I have worked in the service industry for most of my life though.

Depends on the job they do, but never less than 15%

None of the above. It varies depending on price. I tend to round in $5 increments to the higher percentage, so it can be anything from $3 on a $12 manicure to $10 on a $18 and so on.
