How to Use Epsom Salt For Skin Care

5 Luxurious Ways to Use Epsom Salts For Beauty

According to the Epsom Salt Council (yes, it exists!), there are many beauty benefits to Epsom salts, aka magnesium sulfate, as it's known in the world of science. So before you dismiss that unassuming milk-carton-like box at the drugstore, here are five reasons you might want to give these soothing salts a whirl.

  1. As a hair volumizer: Much like sea salt sprays give hair body, Epsom salts help boost texture, too. Who knew?
  2. As a stress reducer: These salts aid in replenishing magnesium in the body, which can make energy levels increase. Which, in turn, can make you look better. A lift in magnesium also relieves stress, increasing serotonin levels and lowering blood pressure. It's a win all around.
  3. As a rejuvenating body scrub: Not only do the salts deep clean, but massaging handfuls of the crystals on premoistened skin can result in an exfoliating experience.
  4. As an mini facial experience: To help dry out oily skin and invigorate all other skin types, mix 1/2 teaspoon of Epsom salts with your face cleanser, and then massage for a mini facial.
  5. As a skin-softening mask: For normal to dry skin, whip up a three-ingredient facial mask: blend 1/4 cup grated carrot, 1/2 teaspoon Epsom salts, and 1 1/2 teaspoons mayonnaise. Spread over predampened skin, wait 10 minutes, and remove.

We can also make the face mask by using Epsom salts. For making the face mask we just have to apply the mask to damp skin. For normal to oily skin, mix 1 tablespoon of cognac, 1 egg, 1/4 cup of non-fat dry milk, the juice of 1 lemon, and a half-teaspoon of epsom salt. For normal to dry skin, mix 1/4 cup of grated carrot, 1 1/2 teaspoons of mayonnaise and a half-teaspoon of epsom salt.

Do not ingest the epsom salt with water or anything unless your constipated. It is a laxative. You will be going to the bathroom every 15 minutes for a day! Throw some in your bath and your body will soak it in.

Here's what I read about using epsom salts as hair volumizer: "Combine equal parts of deep conditioner and epsom salt. Warm in a pan. Work the warm mixture through your hair and leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse." About increasing magnesium, I'm assuming it is absorbed through the skin when you soak. I haven't ever seen or heard of anyone ingesting epsom salts. But I could be wrong.

I have the same questions as a couple of others here. HOW do you use the epsom salt in your hair? And, about how it replenishes the levels of magnesium in your body and increases energy...... like mixing it with water???? Please... do tell.

I love Epsom salt. You can also mix it with grape seed oil and essential oil. It makes a great home made salt scrub.

Epsom salts are a staple in my household. I soak every night before bed in an epsom salt bath. The magnesium really helps to relax you and you easily segue into restful sleep. I buy the 4 lb. bags at Publix. I've used Walgreens brand as well as Walmarts brand. I prefer the granual size of the Publix brand.

A friend did a spa-weekend. She chats with everyone and people love to talk to her and tell her everything. She chatted with one of the women who explained that the bodyscrubs they used at the spa were just bodywash with epsom salts mixed in.

I don't think it's that surprising that Epsom Salts increase hair volume, seeings as salt water itself has the same effect. Still, it's good to be reminded since I love the way my hair looks after being in salty sea water.
