How to Wear the '70s Makeup Trend

4 Ways to Wear the Tawny '70s Makeup Trend

We saw sexy '70s glamour dominate the Spring 2011 fashion runways, and now we're seeing it pop up in makeup current makeup looks. From dewy to matte, mixed in with various warm-toned shadows of varying intensities, there are several different ways you can make the trend your own. To see four ideas for getting in on the tawny look, just keep reading.

1. Copper Tone

For Ellen Pompeo, a soft-hued gloss paired with light-reflecting shadow on the eyes emphasized a glowy texture all around. To re-create her palette, use a liquid highlighter on the top of the cheekbones, along with a creamy pink blush on the apples of the cheeks. Tie it together with a pale pink lip color, like Topshop's balm in Sheen ($8), and a shimmery copper shadow, like Bare Escentuals' eye color in Noble ($13), a medium bronzed sand.

2. Golden Girl

With her Farrah Fawcett-style waves and golden makeup, Beyoncé Knowles looks like she just stepped off the set of the latest Charlie's Angels film. To get her glistening take on the '70s-era trend, stick with a neutral gloss and focus on the eyes. Swipe a shimmery gold shadow on the lower lash lines, like Shu Uemura pressed eye shadow in Sparkling Gold ($21), and finish with a thick line of black liquid liner on the top lash area.

3. Hit the Matte

Emma Roberts proves that you don't have to go the dewy route to get a sizzling hot look. Try the look yourself with CoverGirl's Natureluxe foundation ($12). Line the upper and lower lash lines with a soft seafoam green shade, and add depth to the creases with a toffee-hued shadow. Physicians Formula shadow and liner palette in Bronzed Green Eyes ($11) has all you need to get the job done.

4. Bohemian Chic

To get Nicole Richie's cool-girl style, use a tinted moisturizer for a hint of luminescence, and apply a dusty pink hue, such as Beach Tint in Watermelon ($25), to the cheeks and lips. Smudge a generous amount of cocoa-colored eyeliner on the upper lashes, and top off with a Grecian-inspired gold headband.
