Watch Huda Kattan Apply Her “Melted Strobe” 3D Highlighter in This Exclusive Video

Ask any successful beauty vlogger how they highlight, and you'll likely get the answer that they layer a ton of products on [1]. This technique is what creates that moonbeam strobe you see on Instagram [2]. OK, but how do you actually do it without looking like an alien?

You can thank one of the most influential influencer of them all, Huda Kattan (known as @hudabeauty on Instagram [3]), for creating two new highlighter palettes [4] that make this process fairly easy. The Huda Beauty 3D Highlight Palettes ($45) will be available in two shades come mid April at shophudabeauty.com [5]. There is the Pink Sands version for fair-to-medium skin tones, and the Golden Sands Palette iteration for medium-to-dark complexions. Each set features four quads. This is not just to give you options like other contour palettes on the market. Rather, they are all meant to be used at once to create what Huda is calling a 3D effect.

"Although it's not technically contouring, you are adding that dimension and sculpting effect," she said in this exclusive POPSUGAR video. (See more of Huda's videos on her YouTube channel here [6].)

The standout quad in the palette is what Huda has dubbed the "Melted Strobe." She explains the theory behind it: "What makes this formula really special is — and it's actually something I've been using for so long — is I used to mix oils with powders," she said in the video. "And what I noticed was that my highlight was popping so much; it was so extreme. It looked just like a glow from within."

Huda's goal was to also make sure you looked airbrushed IRL and deal with skin-care concerns during the makeup application process. "Highlighter can really magnify any makeup, but there are concerns for people with larger pores as the pigments tend to emphasize skin unevenness, which is a problem that I have," she said in a press release. "If you love highlighter but you don't want to show your pores, how do you solve that problem?" she questioned in the video.

She solved her own problem (and perhaps yours, too!) by creating the Melted Strobe base. This shea butter- and peal-infused formula is meant to be the canvas for the rest of your highlighters while also smoothing out your skin. After your base is set, you add the other three shades to create that glistening look.

Here are the steps, straight from Huda on how to apply these products for a 3D strobe:

1. Prep: Apply the Melted Strobe as a base to smooth the skin and amplify the light-reflecting pearls.
2. Set: Dab the lightest highlight from cheek to temple to set and bring out the pop.
3. Sculpt: Apply the darker shade under cheekbones to add dimension and shape.
4. Flush: Sweep the rosy highlight on the apples of your cheeks for a healthy glow.

You can see in the video just how gorgeous this technique looks when she follows these guidelines using the Golden Sands Palette. Now, who else is pumped for April to put this genius method to good use? (Raised hand emoji!)
