Jennifer Morrison Braided Updo

Look to Try Now: Jennifer Morrison's Freeform-Braided Updo

Classic chignons and tousled buns are updo staples that are easy to re-create at home, but if you want something with a bit more of a twist, look to Jennifer Morrison for inspiration. Jennifer, who you may know as Zoey from How I Met Your Mother (or the upcoming Once Upon a Time with Ginnifer Goodwin), looked both fresh and sophisticated donning this easy-to-do, freeform-braided updo at the Warrior premiere in LA yesterday. To get tips for trying out the look yourself, just keep reading.

  • Start by prepping the hair with a shine- and body-enhancing product, such as Abba
    Volumizing Root Spray
    ($18).
  • Next, using a medium-barreled curling iron, curl the entire head of hair, focusing the wave a few inches below the root.
  • When finished, create a side part, and then part the hair from front to back, leaving layers out to frame the face.
  • To finish, section off around six or so pieces from the back. What you do next is up to you. Loosely braid the outer strands (the sections closest to your ears) and pin towards the center to secure; roll or twist other sections upwards or downwards, allowing some of the curl to pop out. Have fun with it and get creative, focusing on forming a beautiful shape.
