Keep Makeup From Melting Off

4 Easy Steps to Avoid Makeup Meltdown

There are a lot of long-wear and waterproof makeup items out there for fun in the sun and heat. . . . But all of those long-wearing foundations, blushes, and lipsticks won't do you a bit of good if your face is melting off. OK, not literally melting off, but you get the idea. Even if you have dry skin, the Summer heat and humidity can do a number on your makeup. Here are a few base products that you can use to keep your makeup from fading and faltering during the hot Summer and beyond.

1. Matte Sunscreen

A Sunscreen like Dermadoctor Ain't Misbehavin Skin Clarifying & Mattifying Sunscreen SPF 30 PA +++ ($32) or Elta MD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 ($32) not only protects your skin from the harsh sun, but it is designed for hot humid environments. It provides the perfect mattifying base for waterproof or long-wear foundation application.

2. Primer

A base powder like Mattify Cosmetics' Mattify! Ultra Powder For Oily Skin ($8-$13) can be the ideal base to any makeup look. Or, if powder primer isn't for you, check out the gel-based Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector ($35), which you can wear under makeup or alone for a blurred matte finish.

3. Finishing Powder

Powder makeup and Summer heat go hand in hand. Finish off your look with a finely milled finishing powder like Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder ($20, originally $29) or Make Up For Ever Microfinish Powder ($35) to blur imperfections and create a matte finish for that airbrushed look.

4. Setting Spray

A weightless and nonsticky setting spray is just the thing to keep your face in place all day and night. Check out Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray ($30) or Ben Nye Final Seal Matte Makeup Sealer ($11). The microfine mist won't disturb your finished face and acts as a sealant to keep what beautiful piece of art you applied to your skin in place and not on the move.

Add these four gems to your Summer makeup routine along with your bevy of waterproof and long-wearing products, and your beautiful makeup won't budge an inch!
