Kenneth Cole Brings Cornrows to the Runway
With hair inspired by '80s Harlem and makeup drawing colors from a beetle, the Kenneth Cole Spring 2014 beauty look touched on all the major trends we want to see come March. Makeup artist Romy Soleimani used gold, green, and teal shadows anchored in MAC Cosmetics Black Line ($16) to mirror the animal skins seen in the collection.
Kenneth requested tough-girl braids, which lead stylist Esther Langham for Beauty.com translated into two cornrows. The key to getting these plaits at home is sectioning and product. "Try and work very clean. Section the hair off, and clip one side away so it doesn't interfere while you're braiding. Take your time," she said. Try Alterna Caviar Amplifying Mousse ($24) to get the sleek style. To complete the look, models wore one of three neutral polishes by Priti NYC to match their skin tone.
